The latest computer in Apple’s lineup to inherit the snazzy M1 chip is the 24” iMac, redesigned with a new color palette and a shockingly thin profile. That Bluetooth module looks almost as big as the whole SoC.

iFixit: Disappointing 2 out of 10

Apple: Yes.

I'm surprised Apple didn't go with passive cooling for this model. The thermal envelope is much more capable than the notebooks.

Great tear down as usual! Was waiting for this ever since these iMacs were released! I was also hoping you’d also tear down the entry level M1 iMac too. Online reports say that only have one fan and a different heat sink layout.

“Did anyone need an ultra-thin desktop computer?” Good question.

Amazing how miniaturisation has turned the guts of a computer into the size of a couple of big slices of pizza, but the unfortunate by product being that it makes the device more of a throw away.

Whilst it is a shame some things aren’t replaceable unlike the previous generation, I’d argue it’s progressing, in keeping only the major components on one SOC and other parts on some “replaceable” daughter boards, unlike prior iMacs which had ports soldered directly on

Nowadays apple hardwares are just M1 chip glued/screwed to different size of screens.

There's no need for screws and soft glue if the only thing you can do when you opened is to separate the parts to the correct recicle bin.

easier to open and clean, and that's it. good luck repairing or finding replacement components.

It's funny how people seem to be blown away by how compact the packaging of this is when they hold something a lot more complex with the same functionality in their hand.

I bet all of the modular parts are paired to the iMac.

ngl apple looks aesthetic asf both from inside and outside even their UI looks clean as well whenever you look into their official website it looks state of the art as a web developer I really loved the aesthetics and attention to detail they put in everything.
kudos 10/10 for aesthetic

Apple really does create some beautiful internals, you have got to appreciate that engineering and design. (repairable or not)

it has no thermal vent?

the two fan just circulates the hear around the interior of the imac?!!

“Did anyone need a thin desktop computer”
Honestly me, I live in a small NYC apartment. Any space savings is great and the fact they were able to get such good performance and also audio out of what is essentially the size of a monitor is pretty mind blowing.

It's amazing how small a chip is comparable to the beasts out there.
