Messing around with the Mac mini at the Apple Store, I found the perfect solution for those who don't like the power button on the bottom. This solution has the added benefit of improved heat exhaust:

Flip the unit upside down. With the Mac mini sitting on its flat top, the power button is now on top, it runs perfectly, and looks kinda cool.

Some people have nothing better to do than moan about something so innocuous as the positioning of the power button!

The bigger issue with the Apple Silicon machines is still the outrageous upgrade costs with memory and storage. If they'd upgraded base storage to 512Gb too, the cheapest M4 Mini would have been an even bigger steal in reality.

Another person on here, was able to swap the ssd chips from 256gb to 512gb on each side making it into a 1tb. No issues on upgrading it.

I've been using Mac Minis since the Mid-2010 model and the only problems I ever had were the placement of the ports and the power button. If I didn't keep my Mac Mini pointed backwards, or at least sideways, I would hit the power button every time I turned it around to access the ports. With at least a couple of ports on the front and the power button out of accidental reach, this will address my biggest complaints about the Mac Mini in general.

Just picked up mine yesterday (11.09.2024) from the Apple Store. I preordered it with 24g ram, 1TB SSD

So I had googled recently about using the lightning Magic Keyboard and mouse and it said they would not talk to each other. You mentioned you are using them, have you had any difficulties with connecting wirelessly at all?

For clarification, the mini ssd storage update is easier than the mac studio. Once someone like OWC starts selling them, there should be zero reason why anyone wants to pay full price on ssd upgrade. Even if they (OWC or some other 3rd party)sell them for 20-50 less, its still better than full price.

I ordered the M4 Pro, my reasoning is that I upgrade my iMac about every 8 years. My current iMac is a 2017 and it is becoming obsolete. Will not run the latest OS. Sometimes it freezes, slow to load, etc. But, I have no cost other than initial cost in 2017. It has 16 GB Ram and 1 TB Fusion. It has served me well. I expect to get a long length of service from the new Mini Mac. I previous iMac was a 2007, so the period did shorten, and likely I will not get 8 years from the Mini Mac. So, I opted to upgrade both Ram and the SSD from 16 to 24 and 512 to 1TB. The other great advantage to Mini is the fact that I do not need a monitor. I ordered a Dell 38" curved monitor. I don't expect to replace it in 8 years. I have an LG that is 10 years old and on its 2nd Windows machine.

I got the base model Mac mini yesterday. I upgraded my 2020 Intel MBP to this as I didn’t need the mobility of a laptop and couldn’t beat the price (education pricing). So far it’s good. I don’t do a whole lot on the computer, but I’m hoping this stays solid and lasts me for at least the next 7 years

Upgrading the modular storage isn’t straightforward. To expand it, you’d need to purchase compatible NAND flash memory, along with the right tools and skills to handle the upgrade safely, which can be a bit risky. Plus, the memory itself isn’t exactly cheap

The power button on the bottom issue can be solved by simply placing the mac on the table upside down. Dissipating hot air from the top side may actually help cooling, and would intake less dust from the table. A couple of rubber feet on the corners and you're golden.

The internal speaker is much better than he lets on. It’s vastly better than the M2 or earlier. If you just want to listen to some music while sitting at your desk, it’s more than adequate.
