This is a pretty good fix I used it some years back. Fast forward now I forgot a vital step: A wood hardener treatment. After about a year moisture made its way in. Moisture made its way into the permeable wood I didn't treat and the bondo started coming off in chunks. That bondo wood hardener (restorer) would've saved me grief and money. Live and learn.

That bondo wood filler worked great to seam the mitered corners on my deck's top rail...very pleased with the seamless result!

Helpful tip: for longterm repair, treating the area with wood hardener significantly reduces future rot and the bondo filler adheres to the hardened wood more securely.

If you start with wood hardener (including drilling into the board to inject the solution deep--I'm sure there's a video), much of the wood you might scrape off can stay. I don't know bondo from bacon, but there are 2-part fillers meant for this app. While rot can occur in the middle of a board, it's much more likely at the ends, where water more easily enters the fibers. Paint the ends thoroughly, and that greatly extends the life of the wood. I had to replace all the corner braces on my pergolas because I painted them AFTER assembly, where the paint simply fails to penetrate the joint.

That bondo you left in between the boards annoyed me next time put some thin wood or cardboard in between...otherwise great job

Thanks so much for the gorilla tape idea, doing studying with Durham wood paste this will work!!

Gorilla tape was a great idea - I would have either used cardboard between the boards or cleared out the dried Bondo using a hack saw blade. I haven't used Bondo for wood repair before but doesn't the automotive version of Bondo absorb water? Don't know, just asking.

Okay dumb question but if you had an entire deck to repaint and some of this Hondo repair to do, would you powerwash the existing deck before doing the bondo process or after?

That looks really good, thanks friend.

Tbh I may try this as a project my moms kitchen sink backsplash laminate chipped off and the wood got exposed to water, causing the same scenario in the beginning of the video. I think after it’s filled and smooth n primed I will either paint it or do a temporary contact paper to spice it up here n there.

Use fiber glass resin, water will get passed the body filler aka Bondo!

How long did this last? I've only just started using Bondo as a wood filler. I love the stuff, but wonder how long it will last.

Is it true that bindi is too hard and will separate from the wood outside?

Nice job, I have used a similar technique with the same materials. Do you ever remove the bondo between adjacent boards to restore drainage?

It is a very good idea spent less money
