I greatly appreciate your making this video. My deck has some slightly rotting posts and I had no idea how I was going to afford having the deck lifted in order to put new posts. Thank you so much!

Great vid! Seems having wood buried is asking for rot even if it’s pressure treated. I don’t understand the rationale for not having metal or concrete footings come above ground before the wood post. Is there a reason this isn’t done?

Thanks for the info! What if the deck posts go down into a patio but you can see the rot at the base right above the patio? It would be a challenge to dig to the dirt. Any recommendations?

Nice video. Thanks for putting it together. Two questions: 1) When you install the new boards, are you attaching the new boards to the old post, or are you attaching the new boards to each other? 2) Is there any concerns with water intruding into the screw holes (especially for those screws that are covered with dirt?

I like the idea *if* the posts were above ground. I think I would have had to remove the old posts, add to the footer to be ground level, then attach a post bracket to the footer and install new posts on top. Otherwise, the new boards you just put in will eventually rot just as the post did

The gnome is a pagan symbol and will not aid in sistering boards. Coating the damaged board prior is a good preventative measure. Your humor was appreciated.
