It would be amazing if you built a tool for this. Most people I know have had a nightmare doing this.

It is a shame that neither Google or Synology can work together to offer sync or automated backup of photos and videos between each other. I mean it shouldn’t be difficult. I have Google Photos on my phone automatically back up photos and videos taken on the phone onto the cloud in Google Photos. Then I would go to Google Photos on a computer with a big screen to organize these files instead of doing it on the phone. The big screen makes the process easier and less error prone. Anything deleted in Google Photos on the Web automatically gets deleted in Apple Photos, freeing up storage on the phone. While technically, there are 2 copies of these files, it’s not a true backup because of the linked and synced connection between the phone and Google Photos on the Web. Therefore it would be nice to have Synology Photos on the NAS to receive everything from Google Photos automatically but no files in Synology Photos will be deleted automatically when the files are deleted in Google Photos. As such, the files in Synology Photos are a true backup. As said, I do my management on Google Photos on a computer with a large screen. Therefore the files received by Synology Photos are already curated so they are clean and tidy so the true backup in Synology can be used to recover files without my having to go through superfluous bad photos and videos.

The Takeout process offered by Google is clunky at best. You have to do clean up afterwards. Automatic semi-real-time one-way sync is much better.

It would be great if you implement the ability to view Samsung motion photos. Where can you request to do it?

I've had an issue with my Google photos folders not transferring over. Synology photos does not do that, so you would have to reorganize everything back into folders.

What i'm missing the google takeout helper, when you have albums. Can you use it with shortcuts/symlinks to the original photos, so it will take less space. or is it better to have pictures in one giant folder. Can Synology DSM work with those symlinks created by takeout helper? Those are the infos we are interessted in. Listen Synology, we need a real solution and a real tutorial for hundrets of thousand of photos, not for like only 20 photos. Let's be real, this is not a real use case, somebody migrating from Google Photos to a local NAS with only 20 photos. We want a tutorial for thousands of photos over multiple years with differnt albums.

Yeah, this is nice and all but I have photos going back two decades stored as files on my NAS that I'd love to have indexed and searchable but it's not possible to do this for some reason.

So it looks like it was a step they didn't say anything about. Expand the downloaded zip before uploading it to Synology Photos.

I'd like to export more than just the raw data. A lot of the added value lies in the gallery and the albums, favorites or person identification. All things that I'd like to migrate too.

This is interesting but I have 97, 000 photos. I feel like you left out the expanding the zip file part and how long is it gonna take me to expand the files for 97, 000 photos.

This whole process is a nightmare. I have years worth of google photos and it made over 150 individual download files that I have to click on each and every one in order to download. It dosnt sound like that bad until you realize that after each click, you have to wait for the page to refresh, scroll back down to where i left off, then repeat... for every single one.

Then I found out that all the AI supported categorization doesn't work on synology anymore, which was one of the main reasons why i was making the switch.

Following this tutorial makes the dates on all your images screwed up, plus if you try up upload your photos through Synology Photos' web interface, it crashes if you have too many.

This method of sending download link via e-mail is some kind of joke? Isn't it possible to use Google API for this? At least I see it is possible in MultCloud ...
