As a Christian from Africa who follows and listens to many American preachers and follows a little bit of American politics, I am quite wary of where American Christianity is heading. I don't know about the grassroots Christianity of the faithful and small churches aiming to serve God but for the ones we see on this side of the world, it is shocking to me how much political views from both the left and right influence American churches and personalities. Some people are literally questioning people's salvation based on how Trumpian they are or how liberally inclusive they are. That's just poor.

As somebody who is not from US, it is clear to me and to many others that evangelical Christianity in US is getting heavily influenced by the sociology of contemporary modern politics. That is not a good sign. Thank you Dr. Ortlund for pointing it out. Hopefully many other evangelical leaders in US would speak against it.

This is really unfortunate because I think she uncovers a lot of important connections in her book, but unsubstantiated claims like these are going to backfire and sink its credibility.

I think that the main problem with these types of interactions from fundamentalist is the assumption of motives . It is essentially, “they are not coming to the same conclusions that I am therefore their motivations must be corrupt.” And that is just not mature and does not consider the diversity of thought and conviction that Scripture seemingly goes out of its way to allow for.
