if you put aside the fact that Arthur is an unreliable narrator, then the message of the movies still rings true. Society loves nothing more than to make villains out of people like Arthur, but never once do they look at the fact that these people were once people that were screaming for help, maybe even tried their best to be good human beings, but was largely treated like shit no matter what. Something similar recently happened here in Sweden too. A mentally ill man that had been begging for help all of his life finally had enough and decided to kill one of the politicians responsible for the state of our mental health system. The media in general seemed to only care about the fact that he was mentally ill and attributed this as the reason for his actions, but almost nowhere is it acknowledged that he knew perfectly well what he was doing and that it was an act from a person who simply couldn't take it anymore.

While I didn't care for the movie overall, Lady Gaga's singing was incredible and so different from her usual style. She's also an incredible dramatic actor. I like this side of her.
