The patron isn’t being rude. This is where you recognize, your customer is inexperienced with steaks, and you politely explain to them what each degree of cooking entails.

Some restaurants have a physical photo showing what levels of cooked they have.

One place refused to do "well done" steak and wrote "order chicken" instead

In Mexico you do ask for three-quarters ("tres cuartos"). Abd yes, it means medium-well.

Although I don't. I ask for medium.

In Mexico it’s actually 3/4, and I really have learned something new from this video

There's no reason for a lot of the commenters to come up with super specific reasons to defend the guy who didn't know (e.g. he could be from a different country or never had a steak before). He didn't need a justification at all. Some people just don't know the official/accepted terms for things, even if they use them often. There's no reason to be rude about that or mock him to your audience behind his back.

Most of these are fine, but this is just a normal person being bullied.

This guy was not aware and polite about it, so this is completely acceptable and actually preferred...

not knowing is a fundamental part of life, pairing it with decency which one of the most important humans values is essential for life to exist. This just sounded so preach-y 😂😅

No joke, I'll be nervous like the character in this was when I'm finally asked this as I've never had steak before 😂😂😂

In other countries they use those terms, 3/4 is medium

I mean dude to be fair, not all of us know about steak stuff. I've only had it like twice and i had no clue how to order at first. At least in this case i feel like you should cut the customer some slack yknow? They genuinely might not know what they don't know

In Europe, "normal" means medium rare. Obviously this customer didn't actually know what he was doing, but it's a valid response.

This one wasn’t too bad. Probably someone who doesn’t out much and perhaps trying a steak somewhere outside of home. I hope the server helped him understand the various levels.

Three quarters is exactly how we say “medium well” in Spanish

I was perplexed the first time I was asked what temperature. Like, I don't know, whatever it takes?

My favorite one is when a customer of mine ordered a frozen margerita. Then changed his mind and told me he wanted it on the rocks. But instead of remaking it, he wanted me to put it in the microwave 😅😅

LoL In my country that's how we actually ask for it.
3/4 is my dad's favourite and yup it's about a medium well

That's like the pilot expecting his passengers to know how to fly the plane.
Just that a pilot needs to know a bit more than how long it takes to roast a steak and how to carry it from the kitchen to the table.
