My oldests dress was just over $600. They had photos at a free botanical the money saved from prom was put towards her down payment to purchase a condo at 18 years old. My middle we spent about $300 on prom and she had a fabulous time. Spending thousands on prom when you're really having to save for it isn't a black thing it's just a stupid thing.

I graduted last year. My dress was around 90$, dinner was 20$, and the ticket was 25$. It was a fun night but it wasn't a big deal and it doesn't need to be expensive. Prom's not a rite of passage graduation is.

I'm a New Yorker & went to my prom last minute... dress like $100 from Church Ave shoes, simple hair style, accessories, after prom dress & shoes $150 and limo with friends like $50... no makeup or nails bc I sweat & didn't wanna bother with nails during the turn up & wardrobe change

@Emily Allgeyer You're so right. It's not a black thing it's a stupid thing. Some of those little simple dresses you see those other kids are wearing cost about a $1, 000. I'm talking to white kids with those plain dresses. Some of them cost a $1000 not because the dress looks plain and don't look black style that doesn't mean it don't cost more than the black kids own. Sometimes there are 3 times the amount.
So yes spending that much money on prom it's not a black thing it's a stupid thing.
