I purchased a 2023 C40 after owning a 2010 VW Tiguan Wolfsburg for 14 years. I was hesitant in going all EV but I did my research and looked at a RAV4, a Venza, an EV6, an Ioniq 5 and the C40. In the end, I decided that going all electric was for me since my use case involves city driving 90% of the time. I decided on the C40 not because of practicality but because of its aesthetics and it made me excited in driving an EV compared to the EV6 and the Ioniq 5.

In Q1 2024 Volvo released an electronic rear view mirror for all years of the C40 and XC40. The camera is mounted to the inside, top centre of the rear glass. It does not look like an add-on at all. I had one installed in my 2023 C40. Cost, including labour and tax was about $1, 500 Canadian. I'm impressed!

First
I just checked out the XC 40 at the dealer, get the CPO, save a lot of money, what I did not know or like is the screen over the skylight, it is not solid, I could feel the sun on my head and it was 75 degrees, I live where it gets 95 to 115 degrees, so I think I could fry an egg on my head then. I was bummed.

I was looking at picking up a used because of how cheap they are. But I live in Texas so that roof is a problem and poor visibility is a no go. Thanks for the great review. Have you done a review of the plug in hybrid 5 series?

How much does it cost to replace a battery. Surely it has lots of good stuff, but when the battery dies???....

The next model year will have the "Recharge" names dropped. This will be called EC40, and the XC40 Recharge will be called EX40. They will also get a slight refresh.

And the dual motor will tow 4, 000 lb and you can find a 2023 for 35, 000 10k miles

It's too expensive and I don't see the point of the "coupe" SUV. U is supposed to stand for "utility." Anyway, for a better rough road ride go for smaller tires and bring down the tire pressure 2 pounds. For some reason, Volvo loves to have the tire pressure high. An XC40 with smaller tires rides nicely even over bad pavement and I think better than its bigger brothers.

edit: haven't tried the XC40 or C40 BEVs. They may be firmer to deal with the extra weight. Go for tires with a higher sidewall and most of the time the smaller tire rides smoother over rough roads but there are some exceptions.

No digital rear view mirror in a sloped back vehicle is a non-starter. No sun shade also a non-starter. Thanks for saving me a trip to a dealer just to be disappointed.

0-60 in the c40 ultimate and is 4.5s. Polestar 2 ride is so rough you'll pee blood.

I Think this is still an issue. One thing to be aware of, YOU CANNOT PLUG A USB STICK in and Play Music files without downloading AUDIOWAGON, yes it's STAGGERING Volvo don't support audio playback in an APP of their own. And to top that EVERY TIME you switch on you have to confirm twice in a POP UP so that the usb device can be used. I came across this when I bought my C40 and EVERYTHING WORKED !!
Then guess what... VOLVO upgraded the software AND REMOVED THE FACILITY TO PLAY DIRECTLY FROM ANDROID !!, this happened 2 weeks after I bought it, LIVID ain't the half of it !!

It's a bad purchase, expensive and nothing special. EX30 is a better choice...
