Bishop Barron, Ben Shapiro, The Eucharist

Friends, I'm grateful to my friend Ben Shapiro for inviting me back on his show to discuss the Eucharist, Christianity’s Jewish roots, and the Kantian reduction of religion to ethics. The Eucharist has deep Jewish roots, and when we divorce the sacrament from these roots and tradition, it becomes easier to see it as only a symbol. But we must remember there is an embodied quality to the Eucharist and to religion in general.

As a Catholic of Jewish heritage, I’m very happy to see this type of respectful and insightful dialogue.

I love that a Jew and a Catholic can have an honest, respectful conversation regarding faith. As a Catholic, I truly appreciate Ben Shapiro and is desire to discuss these things. Ben actually inspired my desire to reconnect with my Catholic faith. I am beholden to him for this. My life is much more meaningful. So thank you Ben.

Huge thanks to Shapiro for this. For an Orthodox Jew listen to a Bishop tell him all about the fulfillment of the Old Testament and not yell “nope” is truly brotherly love in action.

Peter Kreeft is quoted saying: when there’s a maniac at the door, feuding brothers unite.

Peace loving people uniting is so beautiful and hopeful… especially in a mad world.

I’m in Canada, and as we slide towards totalitarianism and my fellow Canadians look the other way, I find the goodwill evidenced in this discussion so hopeful.

Thank you so much! ❤❤❤

Thank you Bishop Barron ❤ I recently inherited my Fathers religious items after his passing. His Grandmother raised him and was a devout Catholic. When I saw the adoration books from the 1800s and all of the prayer cards she preserved I knew it was my greatest honor and duty to return to our Catholic faith. My children are being baptized and making their 1st Holy Communion next year. The prayers of the Catholic Church are not in vain we are coming home 🙏🏼

I'm back to Catholicism after a long journey that led me to protestantism to agnosticism to atheism. After two years of meditation, study, traveling I returned occasionally to Mass, and now weekly. I returned to eucharist, I returned home, I returned to Jesus and I found a faith stronger than I ever had. Feels good. I feel free. I really appreciate Bishop Barron social media work and sermons, he's a bright intellectual.

Beautiful convo. As a born & raised Jew who's now a recent convert to Catholicism, I appreciate this dialogue greatly.

I heard tonight that Bishop Barron's book, "This Is My Body" is sold out. I'll have to wait for the next printing now or borrow it from my priest. The Eucharist is THE most beautiful thing on earth.

As a Catholic who studied the book, "Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist", I found Ben and Bishop Barron's conversation engaging and great dialogue.

Such a beautiful conversation. Never would have imagined a Jewish person and a Catholic person exchanging doctrinal knowledge so dynamically and respectfully. Blessed be God for his wonderful and mysterious ways.

As a protestant, I am amazed at the clarity of Bishop Barrons responses and his sensitivity in putting the new testament in its original context. Well done

As a Roman Catholic I thank you for showing us how much we have in common.
Thanks too for clarifying and solidifying eternal truths.

I have often said that when we drift away from rituals, from Mass attendance, synagogue attendance, it all fades into a distant memory, a memory that becomes tainted by our own emotions and intellect, and by influences of the world. There is a brilliance in the mandate to attend Sunday Mass. Without this structure it eventually all becomes lost. Great conversation between two great minds.

I am greatly blessed to be a Catholic! Thank you Bishop Barron for bringing alive the Judaic roots of Eucharistic so brilliantly. This conversation is so close to unity of Jews and Catholics !! Glory be to God !

Fascinating discussion. I am set to be confirmed in the Catholic Church tomorrow, Pentecost Sunday...this after years in the Episcopal Church. It is the power of the Real Presence of Christ in Eucharist that has drawn me to convert. Eucharist is central to our relationship with God.
