Did you get the G9 for work? Let me know how you like it in the comments below!

I'm using it for work and it's amazing.

I used to have two 24" monitors side by side and now is perfect, I do not have the gape between monitors
I also spilt the screen in 3 different sized sections.
If you are like Dorian, using only one window is not very good because your buttons are all over the place,
but for someone who normally is using 2 or 3 monitors this is the best option.
I can not go back to two 24"

So YES, DO buy this for work.
I'm using DisplayFusion Pro to manage the screens

I have the Samsung CRG9 49" on my Windows PC. I actually love it for coding. Coming from 3 28" 4k monitors, it is less space, but still enough for what I need. Sorry, you had these backlight and popping issues. I haven't experienced any of that.

What you mentioned (head turning) is the same issue for any of these mega-ultrawide monitors. The curvature of the G9, if anything, makes that better. I'm a FT developer and it's AMAZING for my productivity. I also use it in other situations: FCPX editing (full screenmacOS) as well as half Windows 10 and half macOS with seamless movement between them with a single kbd/mouse using ShareMouse. So to your video I say this:

DO Buy This Monitor For WORK or PRODUCTIVITY

No buyer's remorse. Soooo much better than rocking dual 27" monitors, and it's cheaper.

I appreciate the honesty, it's not a criticism like "it's a bad monitor", it's about critical thinking and considering if you will use it.
You described it nicely big thumbs up.

The honesty and straightforward no-bullshit approach is much appreciated. Would give it more likes if I could.

Software developer that has tried over a dozen (not kidding) different monitor setups in the last few years. The G9 is amazing for my workflow and highly recommended.

I've been using a 49" ultra wide for work for several years now and it's been a game changer.

Amazing honest review!! I've done that more than a few times.. buying high-end things really didn't needed and never used em' to the full potential.

I think your backlight bleed issue is due to individually lit backlighting zones. Normally a monitor having a ton of these can dim the zones where a darker colour is being displayed and keep other zones lit so they look bright and improve contrast this way. However g9 doesnt have many so they end up creating a halo effect. Try disabling local dimming zones in osd it should help

Two things:
1. Less curve would mean you actually craning your head a lot more to see your stuff because the sides of the screen would be super far away.
2. The main use case of this monitor is for someone who needs/wants dual 27" monitors but doesn't want to deal with bezels. Regardless of just working or gaming, that's what this monitor does.

Yea I kinda said this when I first saw it... "this monitor looks cool but it's not practical for a developer". I recently switched from one ultra-wide monitor thats flat to 2x 27" monitors. This is why I f*(ks with your channel dudes hyped this monitor but no one is actually being honest. So thank you for coming back and sharing a real review.

Network architect here, I find the G9 to be amazing for productivity. Since I'm often juggling between 4-5 excel sheets, multiple word design documents, or the CLI for multiple devices, it's a godsend. None of my work requires video/image editing so the curve and color accuracy are not a concern. The curve actually I think makes it a bit easier to view say 4 excels versus using 2 traditional 27" flat monitors, as I can scan left and right quickly.

A lot of older laptops without thunderbolt can only push this to 60hz, which is fine for work, but definitely not as smooth. Luckily my newer ThinkPad has Thunderbolt 4 and can actually push the full 5120x1440 at 240hz, which definitely has reduced my eye strain when working long hours.

The best part is that I bought this monitor for gaming and do actually have a 3090, but 90% of it's use has been for me working from home full time 😆. I instead use my CX OLED for about 80% of my gaming.

I have both the CRG9 and the G9, and I would like to briefly share my opinion on the best curve for a 49inch monitor. 1800R or 1000R?
Just some context: I use these monitors for programming + I don't game + I sit at about 90-100cm from my monitor.
I got the CRG9 first, and was happy with it. Only one small gripe: the outer edges of the monitor were a little difficult to read. It was doable, and was quite happy with it, but I could see how a more aggressive curve could improve things considerably.
And so... I got the G9. As soon as I unpacked it and started to use it, I realized that a 1000R curve is much more pleasant to use. It takes zero effort to see the outer edges of the screen.
I usually split my monitor in 3 parts. On the CRG9 I noticed that if I wanted to look at content on the left or right part, I would drag it to the middle part of the monitor to get a better look at it.
On the G9 I was no longer inclined to do that. If it's on the left, center, or right part... it is all equally readable.
So that's my personal opinion. The 1000R is the way forward for 49inch monitors. On a 32-34inch you will be ok with 1500R or 1800R. The CRG9 is going back.

I've been using ultra wide setups for productivity for over a decade. I started with 3 27" at 1920x1200. It takes a bit of time to get used to but I greatly enjoy having the screens at about where the G9 is.
Over the years I began my quest to eliminate bezels and it looks like I finally found what I want.
Regarding monitor arms: They're basically irreplaceable. It will change how you experience working with it.

Love the honest review ( for this same reason for the longest time I was against getting one cost could grab 2 27 16x9s for the same screen space/size) as I do not game but need a number of displays for my job and I sometimes work from home.
At the office I run 3 16x9 32' Flat and 1 32curve... My home office is getting a G9 after all for just less mess and moving my other 2 to my onsite office. And in my case, it is not going to cost me anything as I am doing a swap with some other equipment. But didn't want to have ungodly monitors laying around if this contract goes south. I am glad to see people don't have an issue with productivity just its cost for what you're using it for isn't worth it. Which I 100 percent agree with.. We will see if I keep it.

Using this monitor for software development rather than gaming makes more sense. Specially for full stack development. One vs code open for the front end and a bunch of terminals open running your servers. The curvatures help your eyes actually. The wider the screen the further the distance of the screen edges to where you are sitting and your eyes tend to work more in order to focus on the far edges of the screen. After a few hours of coding, your eyes will start to hurt really fast.

Thank you so much for this review! I was close to buying this monitor but I definitely would have been unhappy for all of the reasons that you pointed out. Much appreciated Dorian!!

Great video. I'm a developer too. I use two 43" 3840x2160 TVs @ $300 each. I like having height as well as width so I can see more lines of code at a glance.
