Why You DO/DON'T Need a Dual Monitor Setup
Показать описание
Dual monitors, Double the pixels, double the cost, double the… ugly?
Today I’ll be discussing the benefits and negatives of owning a “dual monitor setup”.
First off the pros:
Dual monitors are great. When you’re gaming on one monitor, you can have messaging programs running, music playing on the other screen or live stream on the other monitor. Making it easier for you to enjoy your overall gaming experience. You could even run two different games at once, if you’re that crazy or like melting the polar ice caps faster with your rapidly heating PC.
It could also make productivity easier. If you’re writing a paper for that one professor who doesn’t care if you pass or fail, you could have your sources on one screen and your paper on the other, making it easier to cross reference as you type. Or if you’re some hardcore business dude. You can watch stocks? I guess? Or if you’re like me, watch YouTube videos while writing papers.
Video editors would be happy too. If you’re editing footage, most professional programs like adobe premiere and Final Cut Pro X allows moving your editing tools to different screens, making it easier for you to maximize your overall view or editing space.
Those are all great but there are some issues:
If the monitors are different. It can look ugly. Yeah. Just like this. That may not be a deal breaker to some, but to others it definitely is. Especially since two different monitors may display colors differently from one another. It might be off putting for some people who might not know how to calibrate their monitor’s color and even then, it may not be exactly the same color.
The second issue is. It’s more expensive than one. Roughly $150 bucks for a decent 1080p display. And wayyyy higher if you’re going ultra wide or 4K. You’re insane.
The 3rd biggest issue is space. You may not notice but two is larger than one, and that means A LOT more room has to be accommodated for JUST that second monitor. I’m 6’4 and have long arms. That means my long arms and two monitors leave little room for comfort, even on a large desk.
So the conclusion is this. I did notice benefits. I was making the most of my two monitors when I had them, but left the second monitor empty about half the time because I was just doing one simple task at a time instead of going power user all over it. I personally will probably switch back to a single monitor, two just makes it too hectic and crowded on my already usually messy desk. But don’t let that stop you if you do think it’s a real benefit. Just because I don’t power user 100% of the time doesn’t mean you won’t. If you are a heavy power user. More power to you.
I hope this video was at least informative, provided some insight and helped you with deciding whether to go dual monitors or not. If you enjoyed it, please be sure to give it a thumbs up, comment and subscribe. I’ll see you guys next time.
