Davinci Resolve jump cuts vs SMOOTH cuts. How to apply them easily.

When you use jump cuts and when to better switch to smooth cuts.

Youtubers are always trying to engage their audience with awesome and consistent videos. You can massively improve your videos by hiding inappropriate jump cuts with smooth cuts. Especially if no B-roll at hand. Of course, we´ll do that now with Davinci Resolve.

Don´t get me wrong - on YouTube Jump Cuts are perfectly acceptable for certain purposes – they are for example heavily used in vlogs and other formats. Such Jump cuts can help you create a fast paced and entertaining visual experience.

But, for tutorials and interviews you mostly want a more fluent and comprehensive flow in your videos. You can support that with smooth cuts. Premiere has the Morph Dissolve tool. But in Davinci we can just use the smooth cut transition.

HOW TO APPLY TO MULTIPLE EDIT POINTS

Hold down the Command key on a MAC or CTRL on PC and highlight each of the edit points you the smooth transition to be on. Right-click the Smooth Cut transition and click Add to Selected Edit Points and Clips. The transition is now on all these edit points. And voila - you are done!
