With the invention of the internet, phones with cameras, and data plans – everyone has the ability to share every aspect of their lives. Nowadays people are going overboard with trying to make it big on social media by posting literally everything they do. From day in my life videos, the shenanigans they get up to at work, even down to things that would get lawyers involved. Everyone wants a piece of that sponsor money pie from brand deals and internet clout. What happened to secrets and keeping your personal life private? No one’s going outside anymore to experience the real world – and all their coherent thoughts are coming from bad Twitter takes and Reddit forums. Tiktok and Instagram are creating a new breed of content creators that think publishing one's life story for strangers to see is a totally normal thing to do. Back in the day, we would share things with 3 to 6 people max. The Chronically Online Generation – Over Sharing is Bad #edvasian

Honestly one of my worst fears is being filmed against my will to be made fun of on the internet. It destroys lives :(

Thinking about the therapist who complained on tiktok about her clients traumadumping as if it wasn’t her job

The nurse ones made me mad. I had just given birth for the first time right before that tiktok blew up. I was in labor in the hospital for 3 days, uncomfortable, could barely eat, couldnt go pee by myself- my nurses for the most part were so kind to me. I cant imagine being in the situation i was and having those crappy nurses make fun of me online because i bled everywhere and wanted a shower or hadnt eaten in 24 hours and asked for a snack. Like wtf

Some people really treat the internet like their journal

My "ick" is seeing professionals mock the people they're supposed to be caring for.

The thing you said about the bullies becoming nurses is so spot on!

As a disabled person, if you see me struggling, please offer assistance if you feel able! I’m perfectly capable of saying “No, I’m okay, thanks for offering!” But I might really need help. The other day I was at the doctors surgery and an entire waiting room full of people watched me struggle on crutches with a stuck automatic door until I had to go get a member of staff to help me. Nobody owes me help, but please don’t think it’s rude to offer! Not all disabled people are born disabled, not everyone has had time to find ways to adapt. Especially in the case of degenerative illness, it’s not always possible to adapt fast enough, and for every disabled person who might be offended, there will be another that’s silently wishing someone would offer a hand.
It’s not offensive to be compassionate.

A girl in my class shared news that her mom had cancer and she was struggling on social media. I asked her about it the next day and she got furious. "IT'S NON OF YOUR BUSINESS". wtf, so I can't ask about something that she shared with the whole world?

As a super private person with terrible anxiety, the thought that a handful of idiots could just record me for funsies at any point, without my knowledge or consent, just really creeps me out.

The employee that got fired from Starbucks and wasted all the product is only going to make things worse for all of their coworkers. And do they not realize that future employers can see that?? The complete lack of thinking things through baffles me

Oversharing can be harmful. Not all information are meant to be disseminated all around. The lack of personal space and autonomy these days are being widely talked about. Interesting topic. We look forward to seeing more.

The internet has been around for quite some time now and we still for whatever reason refuse to educate young people on how not to use it.

I find it really disturbing when someone tries to psychoanalyze me for not being publicly online, like I must not really care about my friends or family or vacation because I didn't post a picture of it. It used to make me annoyed but now it just triggers the grandma in me being "do you actually measure happiness through how much people share online? are you doing okay, honey?"

One thing I hate about this over-sharing trend is that it makes us people who don't use social media look like weirdos. Somehow people get suspicious of you like you have something bad to hide about your life if you don't have an instagram, twitter, facebook, etc.

I think some of the oversharing online comes from many ppl feeling lonely in their everyday lives, the other half is attention seeking which can also derive from loneliness 🤔

All these constant “oversharing” is perhaps a symptom of people craving validation because they want to feel they matter. Definitely an issue that everyone’s just escaping online. People would rather do the easy thing than the right thing. All of these are the symptoms of something deeper and worse.

For me the most concerning part about the oversharing trend is that it creates an illusion that unless you are a 100% honest about every aspect of your life, you are somehow "bad" or "problematic". People should not have to share sensitive information like health or financial information to be taken seriously by people. Sure if you are not actively making money off of something or impacting other people's lives through your actions, you really should not be expected to tell people your entire life story for no reason.

As a nurse i can confirm that there are so many horrible people who are nurses, but you know we need every pair of hands we can get so the healthcare system doesn‘t really mind 🥴
