"You wanna normalize not drinking during pregnancy because you don't want your baby to have disabilities, isn't that a little ableist"?

People do have the right to be offended and outraged about certain things but when you get to the point of getting mad at everything and everyone you should start asking yourself if you’re in the wrong for making a situation out of nothing. Like calm down its not that big of a deal if someone does something you dislike.

I know Emily made up that argument but I have literally experienced something similar. I once reblogged a post about meal-planning tips and someone accused me of being classist and ableist because some people can't meal plan. Like damn sorry, I still want to know how to make easy soup recipes.

I think it's because social media has a way of becoming extremely personal, and so when people see stuff on their timeline they cannot help but try and relate it to themselves even if they have to bend over backwards to ensure the most bad faith misinterpretation of a stranger's opinion. That combines with the insistence on morality in every aspect of life. It is no longer enough to simply not like a celebrity, you have to manufacture reasons why they are actually bigoted monsters in order to justify your feelings.

There's also a very common thing online of Americans assuming everyone on the internet is American. A bunch of people on Twitter attacked someone for tweeting about what a great day they were having when all the Roe v Wade stuff happened....but it was a German girl, with no knowledge or investment in American politics at all.

In my opinion, chronically online people get too focused on an issue that they forget about the actual issues.
For example, someone told me I was offensive towards people with eating disorders because I posted a cake I baked with my mom. Meanwhile, that said person completely ignores and doesn’t understand the sufferings people with ED go through.
The phone screen’s become people’s safest shield I swear.

I just wanna say that i absolutely love Emily's sense of humour and her word choice for some reason makes her funnier.

I remember seeing a post that was angry about a video where a baby was cured of deafness because the parents were “not willing to have a child with a disability.” Like, I doubt the kid is going to grow up and be upset that they have all of their senses

As someone who lives in a war zone, I completely agree. I feel like people who have no idea what's happening will attack you for misspelling a country's name. I am so sick of feeling like my existence is an argument you can make online.

The argument at 2:27 is literal art and I think Emily deserves a PhD just for that

"Everything is OK as long as it benefits me." I am going to steal that. Consider it already stolen, because it benefits me.

people WILL fight over literally anything, a woman on facebook fought with my mom over hand towels. HAND TOWELS.

I dont know why but her videos really remind me of the kind of videos I used to love during the early 2010s, with the explanatory sketches and all. I love it

Hell, even in YouTube comment sections people will start arguing/attacking you for your opinion. I feel like sometimes you can make a discussion out of the topics, but they don't want to _talk_ to you as another human being OUTSIDE of the screen, they just want to yell at you their opinions because of the safety of the screen. It's all very toxic, I find unplugging to be necessary these days rather than getting caught in cross fire that doesn't even matter.

Idk, some people can be absolutely horrible online or they can be overly sensitive and insensitive at the same time. Realistically I don’t think anyone actually talks that way to people in real life. At the same time it’s an amazing place with communication we’ve never known before and a tool for true self empowerment, we’re using this thing totally wrong!

So much pointless arguments happens online, I remember last year a Chinese person on tik tok had an account which I'm pretty sure was dedicated to teaching Chinese and in one of the videos she said a Chinese word that sounds like the n word and people were cancelling her for it. But I have to say queer discourse on tik tok is the worst most toxic dump I have ever encountered but I can't stay out of it without forming an opinion even though it's so pointless.

" WHY WOULD I READ A BOOK THAT'S HELLA OLD" Sounds like something they would ACTUALLY say

Ah I remember when TheOdd1sOut was getting heat because he made a tone indicator joke on Twitter when he didn’t know what they were meant to be. Instead of educating him, a lot of people just threw slurs and called him ableist. I’m sure some people were trying to educate but that whole comment section and the comments to his apology were probably the most hostile I’ve seen a comment section be

Pretty sure to this day people are still using that to put dirt on him.
