What you said about feeling like you need to accomplish a lot when you're young really struck a chord in me. I'm a 19 year old 1st year animation student in New Zealand and I always feel like I'm behind. I have so many projects I'm juggling trying to develop while trying to keep up with social media's algorithms and it often feels overwhelming.
Your videos give me hope and remind me I need to take of myself a little more.

I'm 17 yo and i'm from brazil. I DON'T have support and money to go to a Art School and my english is not that good either. I'm studying all by myself.

I really hope my dream come true.

As a middle school student I've been researching this on my own time. I think I have a crippling fear of being unable to sustain myself. I personally have been evolving my art since around 5th grade. When covid started I decided to take it seriously and my passion has fueled it this far. During summer I like giving myself 6 hour days (sometimes I do 8) where I act like it's my actual job and I love it. I burn out quickly so it's hard but when I push through it and just do art for the sake of doing it, it's really rewarding. Lately I've been looking into making money off of it now that I've given myself time to gain experience just doing it. I love the idea of character design and animation although I also work with the traditional mediums a lot too. I am expanding what I've worked with as I grow and I'm excited to see how much more I can do. I'm already looking into uni tuitions so that I have a basic idea of how much I need to save and I already am on social media so that I can push my work out and be noticed. Thanks for making these videos and thank you to whoever's reading this, it means a lot to be able to access information like this despite my age and experience.

What you said about not needing a degree to be in animation is true unless you need a VISA. Heard examples of former doctors and mathematicians ending up being in Pixar and Disney. And other science majors.

Proves how what matters more is skill, and that it gives hope as there are also many, many resources out there.

Hi! I hope this doesnt sound creepy 😅 but I've been following your content since you first posted your calarts submission sketchbook. I was in High School back then, and I really looked up to your art. Although my family didn't allow me to pursue a degree in art and I'm working in an entirely different field, watching your content to this day still inspires me to keep making art (but this time for fun and not as a career). I just want to say, I really love your videos and your art and you still inspire me to this day 💕

Edit: sorry for any grammar mistakes english isnt my first language 😅

This was super helpful! I’m currently seriously considering quitting my current job as a Personal Assistant (bc finding entry level animation jobs in South Africa seems to be very very difficult 😅). I’d rather work for myself because the 40 hours I’m working as a PA doesn’t add to my portfolio as an artist at all and I’m pretty sure I’d be able to make more money than I currently am at my job if I put those same hours into my own business as a freelancer instead. So hopefully it all works out lol. So while I’m busy making my own freelance business a success, I’m planning on getting a job as a waitress instead of being a PA because then at least I’m interacting with different people instead of being in an office all day on my own.

I’m digging the advice and also I sometimes worry that I need to come out the gate doing the most because next year I graduate as I turn 40 so pivoting late in life gives me excitement with a heaping helping of anxiety.

I'm currently in that dark zone and I can agree 100% with what you say is very accurate

This video is so useful! Thank you!
I wonder if there is a chance you might also mention how to master time management in the animation industry as some of the workload might be heavier than we think at first, thus making it harder to meet some deadlines. Any tips or ideas to use time more effectively might help a ton too!

Sending you love from Dominican Republic 🫶

This video was so helpful! The way you've shared your experience has made the idea of side hustles seem way less overwhelming! I'm finally getting comfortable with sharing my personal projects because of your encouraging content. Thank you!

Great vid! A lot of things here apply for even professionals. I'm looking at portfolios of pro's who are back on market with very very old portfolio's with little skill ranges. Continuously refining skills or (like what Lam says) having a side project/hustle are highly important. I cry a little when I see resumes of 15yr+ vets with work that's equally as old. All it takes is 30mins a day in most cases!

Thanks you so much for this video!
After a long battle recovering from a car accident and finally finishing my art degree (literally last week got the email.) I'm now at the just graduated stage and feeling very unsure about what to do now. This (and your ai videos) are so helpful for helping me focus on what next steps to take and just breathe & adapt when it comes to the whole ai takeover stuff.

Ohh one thing about art school (I go to a state school with a fine arts program btw) is that it teaches you about critiques- how to give and receive them

This was a nice one, Thanks for sharing
edit: the social media advice about which one to use over time due to engagement is a good one
