That sounds normal to me if your running 800 to 1000 loaded that is definitely normal

Any idea what your IPR%, HPOP pressure, boost, and RPM are when your towing and does the boost improve and EGTs lower if you increase RPM by dropping down a gear? I would think if boost increased, that would eliminate a weak turbo.

Ive been told that the larger 130cc split shot injectors on the 97 trucks, without an intercooler is to blame and is why they started intercooling the 99-up.

I'm in the same situation with my fully stock 97, 244K miles with E4OD and 4:10 gears when towing my 6k lb trailer. I can keep my EGT's below 1300 if I'm light on the pedal and depending on how steep the grade, I sometimes have to drop down to 2nd when towing hills. Once my RPM's go up, HPOP pressure max's at 2500 psi, IPR 35%, boost to 13 psi, and EGT's lower to just under 1200. The most boost I have ever seen is 15 psi using Edge CTS2.

I put the E40D (ford) in the same pile as the 48RE (dodge), they were a bad design fromthe start. Sadly I own both haha, 01' Ram 5.9
and 95' Powerstroke.
Still love the trucks though.
I just bought my 95' for $7500 with 280, 000 miles. It looks nice.
