Linux Mint Debian Xfce Edition Review - Linux Distro Reviews

Показать описание
A review of the recently released Linux Mint Xfce Debian Edition. This distro is extremely lightweight, allowing for best of breed apps to be installed by default. Firefox, Rhythmbox, F-spot and all the apps of the Main Edition are here, and even with 6 or so apps open, RAM usage hovers just above 200 MB!

New to Linux and with a 5 year old laptop, this looks like just what I'm looking for. Thanks for such a clear and comprehensive review.

I've been toying with LMDE w/XFCE, and I love how responsive and usable it is, on the whole (from a live cd). There are some picky things that bug me. To the best of my knowledge ALT + F1, apt-cache search, and double-tap = double-click on the mousepad are standard with Debian (please correct me if I'm wrong here). For some reason, LMDE xfce doesn't have them. Not sure what's up there.

@InfinitelyGalactic What's the pro and cons between ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Elementary OS?

@freaks182 I have a computer with a DVD drive. I take other hard drives from other computers...load this OS on it...then put it back in the old computer. It's not that difficult and you only have to do it once because it is a rolling distribution.

The ultimate netbook distro? This could be a great distro for all of us that don't like the way ubuntu is going with Unity and is looking for something to replace it with.
