This falls in line with the idea of "more building, less testing". A lot of people have a tendency to "test" their strength weekly and end up under recovered as a result.

I noticed the same thing, though not with training maxes but with not testing as much.
Before i started to really structure my workouts well i was always sore and something always did hurt, and i was tired all the time, since i was constantly doing heavier lifts then i should be, like i worked up to my real max or 3rm every workout for months, and tbh it didn't do shit in terms of strength but it made me constantly tired. i mean okay i did get somewhat stronger, but i think if i would have did 10% less weight i would have had the same results without the fatigue. Also for this cycle i started to lift 3 days a week instead of 4, and it feels awesome.
I basically run a slightly modified 1000% awesome template. (SSL 5x5 instead of fixed 85% cuz i like how the weight progresses weekly that way, gives me something fun to look forward to) for assitance i do shitloads of rowing and pull downs/chinups, arm work and sometimes abs if i feel like it. (i'm a lazy ass when it comes to abs, even though i shouldn't be) and so far the workouts feel really amazing.

Only 1 book so far and on my 3rd cycle. My other lifts are feeling good but my deadlift went down 10% but I"m almost back. My question is on the assistance lifts. You do your bench press and get in the work. Later you have 3 sets of 10 of dumbell press. If your last rep on the 3rd set of 10 is hard are you going to far and defeating the purpose or is this about right and it's not detrimental because your in the higher rep range?

Unrelated question: Is that a Dutch T-shirt you're wearing? "Bloed moet en pijn is fijn" translates to "Bloods a Must and Pain if fun". Figured you'd be wearing something like that.
