Customize MetaHuman Textures | Unreal Engine 5 tutorial

Показать описание
Step by step guide to texture the face of your MetaHuman. Start by exporting out the MetaHuman face textures and preparing the mesh in Blender (or any other 3D software of your choice). Then, paint in your desired look onto the face mesh using Adobe Substance Painter. And, finally bring the updated textures back to Unreal Engine 5.

This is part THREE of the series "Create your MetaHuman". In the upcoming days, we will post the next parts which includes customising Hair, Body Mocap and etc.

Shoutout to @realtimegraphx for his insightful course on customizing Metahumans that inspired us to learn more:

Just got to say that Part 1 (Create), Part 2 (Animate) and the first part of Part 3 (Customize) of your Metahuman Tutorial Series are in my opinion the Absolutely Best Metahuman Tutorials available anywhere in the world today, simply because I have actually very successfully completed them, now I have worked through a number of other Metahuman Tutorials available and although these are good, they no way cover the breath and width of this subject matter that your tutorials cover, and are massively informative and relatively easy to follow, so thank you very much indeed for producing such Fantastically High Quality and Different Video Tutorials...Now there's always a "BUT" so here goes, you two are also obviously very very skilled at "Substance Painter" it shows in the video, now I know this is not a video about teaching people how to use "Substance Painter" and yes I have used it in the past... BUT why have you just torn through the "substance Painter" part at 100 miles per hour, it is very much a composite part of this whole tutorial, any one who is completely new to "Metahumans" would I believe manage to successfully get through the "Metahuman" part, But I do also believe they would be absolutely "LOST" working their way through the "Substance Painter" part, which is an absolute shame, all that time you have spent creating this near-on Perfect Tutorial, is let down by a small part of it. I myself are very much struggling with this part as well, but I'm not going to give up on these wonderful tutorials, I'm just going to have to get a Grip on "Substance Painter" a bit more.

This is GREAT! I expanded upon this and also edited the metahuman shader to add a "Roughness overlay" Texture and used the Substance roughness mat with a blur mask to bring extra life to the paint. :)

Tips & Updates: (Based on our findings and your questions)

1. BODY TEXTURE: If you want to also TEXTURE the BODY simultaneously, you can! We already showed you the UDIM naming system and how the body textures get the suffix .1002 .... all you have to do is export the body as an FBX alongside the face mesh. In blender connect the body to the head mesh using CTRL+J and also perform the NON-MANIFOLD process that we did for the head but this time with the body as well. It should be fairly simple since the body doesnt have the extra color and normal maps. If you have questions let us know <3

2. FACE COLOR MAP RESOLUTION: We realized after recording that the Metahuman color maps are actually originally 2k resolution and not 4k. Although exporting them as 4k from substance painter should help promote a crisp resolution for the make up you just added. If you guys find out that this is not true please let us know :D

We'll add more tips and updates in this pinned comment here if any questions come up <3

Also for a super detailed customization course we do recommend @realtimegraphx on Artstation if you are going SUPER HEAVY into metahumans:
