Software experience is everything here. With a redesigned WearOS 3 interface and one of the best fitness data apps (Fitbit) this watch is all about the software experience. It’s early, so we need more apps but I think we’ll get that soon

Even with the older chip, the UI is far smoother, more responsive and jank-free compared to the Galaxy Watch 4/5/. I wasn't sure I'd keep the Pixel Watch (free gift with the Pixel 7 Pro) because I just upgraded form a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic to the Watch 5 Pro, but, after seeing the beautiful UI, the fluidity and the general responsiveness, I might actually keep it. If it does well, I'll just sell the Wacth 5 Pro in a few weeks.

The battery life is a tough sell, but it might become moot if the recharge time is tolerable. How long does it take to charge the watch?

The Garmin Venue series is kind of this watch’s competition. I think the UI is better on the Pixel & app selection too. But after that it seems like a landslide for Garmin: GPS accuracy, much better battery life, no subscription, durability, standard watch bands, etc. I think it would be an interesting comparison test. There’s always the latest Samsung & similarly priced Apple Watch too

It looks like a great first-gen smartwatch. If they improve three things, Google has a winner: first, introduce a larger model, remove the paywall, and try to increase the battery to last 50% more than the current watch.

I think the most obvious comparison watches would be the Galaxy Watch 5 40mm (size, ) the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (price, ) and the Apple Watch Series 8 (cross platform.)

The Pixel watch is nice, but strap system may be an problem when changing from a casual strap to a sports straps for workouts(and vice-versa)

Wow the battery life is kind of a deal breaker. Seems like it may not make it through a full day of fairly heavy use. A watch where I have to wonder if it will make it through the day is no good to me.

Also, Google might have QC problems? I'm so surprised....

Whats the battery life when recording GPS activities? I have a Garmin Vivoactive which lasts 5/6 days when just used as a watch, but GPS recording over 7/8 hours will kill the battery. With the pixel watch only having a 1 day battery life should I expect much shorter while recording activities?
