How to Memorize the F-Stop Scale, Easily

preview_player
Показать описание
An f/1.4 lens lets in 4x more light than an f/2.8 lens—because the aperture is bigger by two "stops." In video and photography, knowing how to understand stops on the f-stop scale turns those numbers on your lens into useful information.

Is it technically 11.2 and 22.4 then?
Do they just leave off those decimals for ease of use?

Why nobody told me like that. We live great times because we can get great value from great people !

The easier method is to live in agony over the F-Stops that you're unable to achieve because you can't afford the nicer lenses that go below the stock of 4.0

Griff I love your videos, I have learned a ton. Can you explain prime lenses. Just when I think I have it I see something totally opposite. You had recommended an 11mm prime lens on an earlier video fro shooting real estate but I can't seem to find one anywhere.

The most value I've ever got from a 2-minute video. The best 2-minute video I've watched in my career as a photographer

1:05 - My question is if going from 1.4 to 2 is half as much light, and then going from 2 to 2.8 is half as much light again, how is it possible to have 4 times the reduction if between 1.4 and 2.8 you showed us there are two 1/2 reductions (2 halves make 1 whole). So, wouldn't the reduction be 1x the reduction as opposed to 4 times? Or are we missing the explanation of what you actually mean when you say "half as much light"?
