Have you ever prayed for hours to have God help you decide what to do? We can only slightly imagine the agony of “if I give up, what will happen to these poor souls?” Or “why did I sign up for this?!” I often think about what made him sweat drops of blood 🩸. That is true agonizing prayer, love at its best, in silent agonizing prayer alone. Our Lord is a hero forever above every hero on earth. Jesus Christ Hallelujah our King! There’s no other!!! Blood did not bring Him into the world, but His Holy blood brings us new life forever with Him.

Interesting also that Christ coming back to find the disciples sleeping is a parallel of Him opening their eyes after the resurrection.

Also, between the Mount of Olives and the city of Jerusalem is the valley of death.

I'll admit you're not the first person I've come across to draw parallels between the events of the Garden of Gethsemane and the garden of Eden, however, you've definitely introduced new aspects to the narrative which hitherto, hadn't been noted (to my knowledge anyway). Your observation of the cup being paralleled to the fruit of knowledge blew my mind.

The other Gethsemane/Eden reference I'd heard was the idea of Peter unsheathing his sword to sever a man's ear as being representative of the cherub with the flaming sword made to guard the entrance to Eden.

But if I might add another observation to your theological hypothesis....concerning Christ's bloody sweat; can it also be said there exists a connection between the bloody sweat and the later crowning of thorns? In the sense that God, who had told Adam that he would toil for bread by the sweat of his brow, would have the earth also produce weeds and thorns (bear with me, I'm paraphrasing here 👀), as a consequence of sin.

Did you see Milo on Timcast the other night? I have to say, Milo's journey from flaming homosexual Jew to Roman Catholic monarchist philosopher is one of my favourite redemption arcs ever. Would you consider doing a stream with him? I think it could be quite something.

Are there any icons that have Chist on the ground in Gethsemani and also raised on the cross in the same image?

We can relate to this, because in recent prayer and as a parallel, it sounded something like

"no, we do not want it, do not want to pick it (and this also relates to marriage for us) ."

Unless this is g*d's will, and they/it must be according to the will and good for the Us/all as: "xyz/etc"

Golgotha - the place of the skull. That place where the old self must die. Sitting with our suffering and allowing it to dissolve and be purged through Christ. A new Self emerges.

Judah intercedes for Benjamin with the cup that Jacob planted on Benjamin. Jesus is the Lion of Judah (from the tribe of Judah) and takes the blame for the cup.

Is Christ eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil in submission to God or now from the Tree of Life in the Garden, now being necessary for the Resurrection? I think the latter really ties it up perfectly.

Reminds me of the scene in the last Harry Potter movie when he has the Philosopher’s Stone in the forest, speaks to the spirits of his parents, and then offers himself up to Voldemort to be killed.

Jesus is the fruit that is nailed back on the tree.

Thank YOU! To support your work, I'll be buying a print on canvas piece for myself as a Christmas gift. I'd also like to encourage others to do the same.

Disappointed that the q&a will no longer be replayed for youtube.

Thought provoking but not sure it has to be more complicated than the obvious.
