I'm from England and whenever I visit the USA, I am shocked at portion sizes in restaurants and take-outs. They are freakishly massive. The worst thing ever was when I visited a hotel restaurant Indianapolis. I ordered a starter...but the starter came out as big as the main courses that are served in England. Even worse, they brought this hugest main course out even before I'd finished this mountainous starter. It made me want to puke. I see this all the time in the USA. People must get used to having massive courses and then train their guts to deal with this mountain of food. But now people are so sedentary that it exacerbates the issue even more. Lack of movement, massive courses and even more ultraprocessed food than ever. It's suicide

I stayed at a historic hotel that showed menus and photos form 1910-1925. Stunning the difference. Small portions, and way less carbs. We eat waaaay too much.

Interesting. Me, a German and some friends went to California in 1978 and were blown away by the size of the burgers they served up. At first I could not figure out how to get my teeth around that 'Double Jumbo Breakfast Jack' because it was about 6 inches high. I remember women in pink and purple morning gowns, heavy facial 'make up' and 'pom pom' slippers having breakfast in those fast food joints with a cigarette between their fingers. We travelled around CA in a car for about a month but found it very difficult to find decent food anywhere (Chinatown, San Francisco was ok). The bread was particularly shocking. We found a salad bar once by accident in some god forlorn County. In those days there weren't that many obese people like there are now though.

It’s the size and lack of movement. I work with an older married couple. They eat whatever they want. They swim and walk daily. Eat small portions. Live a slow life. They’re healthy and thriving. 75 & 76

Americans also go by car everywhere and they rarely walk in general.

My husband and I visited America a few years ago. We were very surprised at the portion sizes. We wanted to eat vegetables but it was very difficult to find anywhere that would serve them. Salads were a bit easier but they put lots of sauces on. We ended up sharing meals as we couldn’t eat it all. I’m not surprised America is overweight but our country, Uk, is the same although not quite as bad. Apart from the food we did enjoy our visit. ❤

How old were they? I am guessing 20's or 30's? When I was in my 20's and 30's I could eat almost anything and I was thin but no longer true in my 60's. Do you think a stationary bike would do the same thing? Oversized portions definitely contribute to fat America. I think you are right on target here with portion control. Great video!

There is no one reason for US weight problems. We've developed a society that puts barriers in the way of walking. Most suburban neighborhoods are not built for walking. We have to drive to get groceries. Our shopping is done at mall or now online, which necessitates no movement at all. We eat a lot of highly processed food. There are psychological components for many as well. Childhood victims of sexual assault can view being overweight as protective. Men won't find me "desirable" so I'm safe from violence here in my cocoon.

I cringe when I see the 1, 300-1, 500 calorie meals at restaurants, probably enough for an entire day being old and sedentary.

YES!!! The serving size is Huge!! And these are calorie dense foods they already have high calories even in a small serving sizes, but double triple quadruple the serving size and the Calories become humongous, . We've been brainwashed into eating huge portions of food for years now
Commercials TV shows movies all-you-can-eat buffets all encourage people to eat large portions of food and told people eat until your stuffed which that itself is not healthy
In my own family so many of my family members are overweight because they eat giant portions of food, my mom could eat more food than a football player but the sad thing is a lot of women these days are out eating men, small bodies need small Calories big bodies need big calories but not that much, , . So how do we encourage people to eat only as much food as their real body needs?? How do we teach people to only feed your body and not the extra fat you're carrying? How do we teach people to only eat for nutritional needs and not entertainment boredom social non-nutritional reasons?
This is the tough part of trying to get America healthy again

Interesting story. But I believe I have a more interesting story to share. I have read and seen a video of a woman from Ethiopia, who hasn't had any food AND WATER for 16 years. She claims she lost her appetite at a young age, and doesn't need to eat, nor drink any more. She was checked by medical doctors and what she said has been confirmed by them. She doesn't even need to pee, nor poop, and there were no signs of poop or urine in her system.

It's only the imagination in our head telling we need food, more and more.
Also eating junk food make people more hungry and unsatisfied because the lack of nutrition. You cannot feel hungry eating real foods. I am an american and i have to say Americans are lazy. Lazy walking even from parking to the building. Everyone chooses the nearest spot possible to save their steps. Americans eat packed foods, fast food for convenience and to save them time enjoying the couch watching TV instead of cooking a healthy meal .
I hate to say, eating junk associated with a sedentary life make human brain shrink resulted from lack of nutrition and oxygen.

Denny's does serve salmon, broccoli and a side salad. I just don't understand how people keep feeding their pie hole after they pass 200 pounds? Like how large are we going for? 😂 Thanks!

Ya I'm sure that all the crap that is illegal to add to food in EU has nothing to do with our poor health.😁 It's definitely that I just need to eat 3 potato chips instead of the whole bag and I will become very healthy. Brilliant
