If I'm not mistaken, this man is the only person remaining to live in an Iron lung. He has 4 more machines hidden away so that if his iron lung breaks and needs parts, he can get them from the spare machines. He is now only out of his iron lung 1 hour each day.

I wonder why some people recover and others end up like this. Maybe an underlying deficiency or age related factor. I heard lots of kids got it and recovered no issue like we see now with long covid. It's important to answer these questions.

Awful. Had a friend at 8 who got polio and was in one of those things. What was existing inside that machine was not the kid I'd played ball with. 68 years later I still remember every detail of it. 😢

My father had Polio and spent years in an Iron lung. Learned to walk again at 16. Went on to become an Microbiologist, and thn a few years later went to Med school for his D.O. Grateful for that machine and science....
