First off, if you're in public, there is nothing they can do. There is no expectation of privacy in public. Besides, you're being watched by cameras everywhere you go anyway.

If you hold your finger over the camera lens on the left momentarily when you press the record button, it will work. There needs to be a balance of visible light in both sensors - both need to sense the same intensity of light, dark or through to black.

Just break the light or if you're technical just take it out.

I found a way around it. I go to garage sales and record my finds. I first start recording - let it record for 2 seconds then I cover it with a headband

If you're in public, you can be recorded whether you like it or not.

You could Def turn that off with a little bit of electrical work, but that's not in the average person's wheelhouse. Also if you went to that much work just to secretly record people, the creepy level on display would be off the charts

Once it’s blocked off, put your hand over the recording lens, hit record, and it will start recording.
