RayBan Meta Glasses: Can You Turn Off or Block the Camera LED Light when Recording Videos or Photo?

I wanted to turn off or block the LED camera light on the Rayban Meta smart glasses when recording videos or taking photos. I tried with a piece of black electrical tape to cover the LED light lens but it does not work. Whether I try to record a video or taking a photo its says... "the capture LED is blocked, unblock the front of the glasses to use the camera". Has anybody tried to cover the LED with a marker?

The guy who said it’s for “legal” reasons clearly knows nothing about the law. Recording in public is legal, Period end of story. For Meta to assume that everyone will use the glasses for nefarious reasons and paints everyone with the same brush means they were too scared of not having the led light. Basically, cowards. But they at the same time don’t mind making voice records through their Facebook app while it’s open. Point being, meta doesn’t care about your privacy, they care about possible negative blowback.

If you cant block the light then that makes the glasses essentially worthless

I’d buy it if I could disable the led. I think it’s great for any public appearances. I’d disable at family functions but out in public, I’d rather blend in with the crowd and not be approached by random people wanting to ask about the glasses.

The usage of the LED should be optional at the discretion of the user/ owner. Ray Ban or whoever makes the glasses should give you that option and if they want to cover their behind just put a disclaimer. It should be my choice even if I'm breaking the law whether or not people knows I'm recording. Just imagine: one can buy a gun, use alcohol and drugs (I don't do drugs), operate a vehicle irresponsible and yet one can't record a video or a phone call.

What about one way mirror sticker. I’ve seen some cheap on Aliexpress for windows, could cut out a little piece and put it on

For video it works if you hit record then immediately block the light. I use a simple plastic camera slider blocker that i used to block my laptop webcam. A physical low tech solution, but it works. 👓

It works if you put a small enough piece of tape that just covers the led, but there will be light leak so it's not perfect, but it's very sensitive to where you place it.

I just took them back to the store and my satisfaction is that they can't be resold as new. Most likely the store will send them back to Ray-Ban. Take that Ray-Ban.

You can use them with the led covered. With the led taped over, put your finger over the camera lens, start recording then release your finger and they record

I read about using black nail polish over the light. I do p.i., work & use covert cameras all the time. Would love to add this to my bag if i can just cover that light.

Whay about using a needle to smash the led light?

my kid somehow break the led light it has cracked and it seems to work, now light is not working but camera is working

What about taking a small drill bit and drilling directly into the center of the LED until it’s destroyed

Turns out if you put a pinhole in the piece of tape, it blocks most of the LED warning but still records. And that is the low-tech version. Glass had a similar warning and it could be removed by replacing components (there was a grey market for those) or just patched out in software.

Cover the LED with tape, before you record or take a photo cover the camera. Glasses with compare a light from LED to camera, when they match (meaning both have black cover) it will work. K tx bye

Solution for video only. There are sensors on the both sides of the glasses. You have to block the one around the light with tape or whatever, then you have to temporarily block (with maybe black tape on your finger) the one on the other side for the first couple seconds of recording. This does not work with photos.

If you cover it after you press the capture it will still record. This only applies to photos obliviously.
