In the wake of Bungie's mass layoffs and Destiny 2's cash burn, Sony is stepping in. It's not dismantling the studio but significantly changing it.

Bungie wanted to be a multiple IP studio so bad they almost killed their whole company by pulling huge amounts of resources off their only game.

Bungies board of directors needs to be dissolved/replaced with competent individuals. The way they have mishandled destiny as a franchise is laughable

With Marathon, the moment it was reported that it was going from customized characters to a set characters, I lost a lot of interest..

“Sony is trying to do cost restructuring, portfolio optimization, optimizing studio structure, and enhancing efficiency.” is just a fancy way of saying “Bungie done effed up and Sony is coming to clean up the mess.”

Crazy that sony is having to literally babysit bungie because pete Parsons is acting like a god damn toddler with his toy cars

Parsons still being there - any of the top leadership still being there - is unfathomable. Sony moving in can't hurt at this point. Only one way to go. Under current leadership Bungie is going down fast.

Jason Jones is the Chief Creative Officer at bungie has been one of the de facto reasons why Bungie has a super high burn rate and are known for throwing out entire game's worth of content on short timelines. He's the one that espouses "bungie magic."

He did it with Halo, halo 2, halo 3, he threw out Joe Staten's version of destiny at the last moment. While Pete is clearly a problematic and selfish person, JJ is the person who puts Bungie in these spots well before Pete took over.

They are sunsetting my interest in the franchise with what news has been coming out.

Bungie's corporate journey is one of the saddest things I've ever seen. They broke off from MS to go straight into bed with Activision. Then they somehow managed to break off and keep their IP. It was a miracle. Then they threw it all away trying to make dozens of other bullshit games and have now sold themselves to another huge company. Its baffling.

In a leaked email Xbox called Bungie a risk because of high burn rate
They were absolutely right

Imagine how fantastic Destiny could have been had the studio not been fumbling

I just don’t understand Bungie’s game plan. You would think it would be a top priority to get a group together and figure out the bloated space issue along with the new player experience. If your not working on D3 that means a clean slate is completely off the table so their only solution is to vault more stuff after A) saying they wouldn’t vault anything else, B) Vaulting hurting the game far more than it helped, C) Once again harming the new and returning player experience by vaulting the content, taking away any semblance of a story path to follow in favor of being thrown into a jumbled mess and being pulled in 15 different directions while old players have no idea how to guide them because the path they took from Red War to Final Shape no longer exists.

Sony: we’re making Destiny 3 cuz Bungie doesn’t want to for some reason

Years ago when I heard that Bungie had about a 1000 people working at the studio it blew my mind.
This is bloat of a ridiculious scale considering Bungie is barely able to deliver any form of content. Not even mentioning NEW and creative additions. Most of the content has been recycled since Destiny 1.

Vaulting and Sunsetting is complete bullshit. Other genres can keep old content around for decades and you're telling me they can't keep a few additional planets/dungeons/raids around?! GTFO with that, Bungie!

Stealth Sunsetting. Gross. Bungie deserves to never get another dime.

850 is a lot of people for 2 games. That’s a huge payroll if that’s all full time employees. If that many people can’t keep a game going that already has a significant amount of assets developed for it then they have bigger issues and will never survive as a game developer.

Parsons still CEO after what he has done? Like why is sony keeping him on? Wtf

Honestly, it’s so hard to care about this any more. Nothing happens to the people who are responsible. The only people paying for mistakes are the people who do the actual work. Same here as everywhere.

Marathon will flop then Sony will dissolve Bungie... 3 years later, D3 Sony exclusive.
