They're setting up Homelander's defeat here imo

Soldier Boy will depower Homelander. Homelander will be just a normal human, which to him is disgusting. It's his ultimate hell

Plus murdering the main villain after giving the whole 'actually murder is bad' thing seems kinda pointless

Hopefully, Soldier boy sees how the public discarded him and escapes to then be helped by veterans (the only people he would possibly trust, that or the Legend) and has same self reflection.

He'll want to kill Billy and the boys, Homelander and Ryan and will get an epic fight in the white house. But soldier boy doesn't die and has a happy ending of some kind.

The ending will be either the boys will remove the compound V from every supe, allowing them to easily kill Homelander or lock him up to Suffer. Or Billy kills all the supes and / or Homelander Brutally. But im betting Becca will bring him back, and Billy does something for ryan, allowing ryan to kill Homelander.
