What’s interesting is there is no victim in this dynamic. Soldier Boy in his day was likely a carbon copy of Homelander and didn’t love Countess particularly either but was just abusively overbearing and territorial of her like how HL is of Maeve and associated that as feelings of love. Same goes for the scene where he says his father looked at him as a disappointment and our initial reaction to that is to feel sympathy for SB but when history repeats itself with the scene with HL in the finale we finally understand SB’s fathers POV. In the end he really was a disappointment because all he was was a roided up poster boy employed to sell a lie to the masses. I don’t think SB is as bad as HL but he’s not a saint by any means either.

I just realised the only reason why he said he missed her is that Crimson showed up at the end to put the gas mask on his face without him noticing and not showing up the whole beat down so he thought she still love him even tho the Paybacks betrayed him (which he deserved)
