Metal and jazz exposes how most people are actually pretty close-minded to music, which is fine, most people seem to only really like 1 to maybe 3 genres of music, but so many people like to say or think "I like everything" when you ask what types of music they like. Diverse pools and extreme forms of music seem to mostly be for audiophile musician types.

"i like to be able to understand the lyrics" is one the of the most common reasons i hear for not liking metal, so i tell people to start looking the lyrics up and reading them while the song plays and you start to be able to hear the words more clear.

The disconnect between metal heads and non metal heads is so fascinating, I truly can’t relate to how people don’t hear the musicality in screaming let alone find it “distracting”.
