5 Years of Mechanical Engineering in 12 Minutes

I share with you my full transcript in this video, where you get to see my grades and all the courses I took in Mechanical Engineering. I’m creating this video to be transparent because I know I would’ve loved to see a video like this when I first started studying Engineering and it’s a good way to summarize my entire mechanical engineering degree.

Sharing my grades online is definitely not an easy thing to do as growing up everyone always said to keep it secret…but if it can help motivate or inspire someone out there, then it’s worth it. If I can manage to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree, then you can too! Anyways, if you believe my grades are good for an engineering student, this video is not a flex. If you believe my grades are low, then please don’t hate. Timestamps are as follows:

00:00 Intro
00:25 First Year
03:33 Second Year
07:13 Third Year
09:36 Fourth Year

Inspired to make this video by a similar video I saw Wissam Seif, a fellow engineer, make.

You did a lot better than me. I had to repeat a few classes but I'm proud of the fact that I never gave up and I still graduated with my bachelor's. Good job on the video and thank you for sharing.

As a mechanical engineering grad myself, I can assure you this guy is a hard worker to be able to achieve such awesome grades! I'm gonna be sharing my 4 years of mechanical engineering in my video soon as well. Thanks for the inspiration Tamer :) Love your videos!

Mechanical Engineer Ungrad here. I'm 1 term out from my graduation, wanted to add my 2 cents. Tamer, congrats on those grades dude - thats territory that a lot of us never see. Me personally, I just came to realize that I wanted to look back on this time here in college happily and feel like I gained social experience on top of all of the classwork, otherwise you're dooming yourself down a 4-5 year path of depression with no upsides that never seems to quit getting worse. So, I took a job as an RA (fell in love with this job), reduced my credit load and decided to graduate in 5 years instead of the 4 year window promoted by my university, and focused on being a person as well. All that to say, I'm pretty happy with my 3.3 GPA all things considered. And lastly, it is definitely possible to achieve the grades that Tamer did first try, and if I went back and retook a number of my classes, I am certain I would ace many of them. But that's the point I was trying to make to you all here: at what cost. I am thankful that I can say that I woke up most days and was able to still smell the roses through it all. Best of luck to all of you fellow engineers <3

I'm so jealous with your educational system there. We have a lot of "REQUIRED" GE courses! Instead of focusing on the engineering courses, we have to take these additional 10 units to complete per semester.

dynamics was tough for me too. it was a blend of dymics with kinematics. i took it over the summer so a lot of stuff crushed into a 2months class. the professor was a PHD ex-NASA r&d scientist. he was just too smart to teach! i didnt really enjoy calc but i did really well with thermo and materials. again, it was mainly because of the professor.

This guy is amazing. Respect for getting such high scores.

This is so accurate. Everybody starts first year of engineering on top of the moon because we've taken calculus, physics and chemistry in high-school. Our averages were 85-90%. Then 2nd, 3rd, 4th year came around where we had to fight to stay above 80%.

I’m a third year mechanical engineering student in Ghana
I want to say you did really well attaining such grades
For me I also love calculus just like you did by so far my best grades were in Fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and Engineering and Technical Drawing
Big ups bro

I'm a girl and i chose mechanical engineering but people in my country are stupid and they keep telling me that it’s only for boys why did i choose it, i wish u will make alot of videos about it love it thanksss 💕💕

Hey man, please do you have a video where you talk about your study routine? Maybe your timetable or study schedule for most courses and how much time in a week you would allocate for tougher courses. I know this is something individualistic, but on behalf of others, we would like to know your awesome study routine. For the record, You are/were an Excellent student. I am proud to be inspired by your videos and your lifestyle. Thank you brother.

This makes a mechanical engineering major sound kinda fun ngl. Might be looking forward to it

Thank for going over this!!! I talked over what I wanted to do after highschool with my dad, as I'm currently in a gap year, and we came to the conclusion that mechanical engineering would be a good fit for me.

Its hard to find what some schools will have as courses (as I want to do community college first to knock out my core classes) and this helps a lot!!! Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊

I would like to meet you in person. I'm studying electrical engineering, and I have always found it fascinating when people come together who strive to have brilliant thinking minds. Love you, Tamer.

I HIGHLY recommend that you map out ALL your classes ASAP. This video is a good start but general education courses in the US take this to a whole new level. As a helicopter parent the idea of just turning my 18 to life sentences (2 daughters) loose in college with my money mortifies me. Anyway I was SHOCKED at the difference in coarse load between my first daughter and my second daughter. The first double majored at UC Davis in International Relations and Spanish AND she got a minor in Education. Oh and she spent a year studying Spanish in Salamanca Spain. Well she graduated in 4 years with no problems except for the little detail of trying to get a job with only daisy majors during the great recession. Well she eventually went back to college and 15 YEARS after graduating from high school she finally finished another BS degree in nursing to get a decent job.

Daughter 2 wants to be a mechanical engineer. In the process I mapped out all her required courses and was SHOCKED that it was going to take her 3 years in community college just to knock out all the math, chemistry (1 year needed to transfer to Davis) and physics. The real kicker though was all the crazy ass general education courses she STILL had to take. It is BEYOND STUPID to force engineering students to take absurd courses in gender studies when they already have a sh!t ton of STEM classes to take. That's when it occurred to me that a Daisy major is basically a major in general education which is why it is SOOOO much easier to graduate on time (but without any skills an employer will pay for). All in all it is still much more worth it to take five or even six years to get the engineering degree because you are ONE AND DONE. First daughter ran from STEM classes like the devil running from the cross only to have to bite the bullet later. Kids that don't recognize this early will just hit a wall later.

Sometimes its just intelligence. My mate did Mining Engineering years ago and ace'd it, of course was an OP1 in High School. He came back recently to do Mechatronics and got a 6.8GPA .. just like that. With seemingly minimal effort.

Wow, so 72 is your lowest grade in your 5 years of engineering? Damn, that's very good. Are you going for a Masters next year?
