I've had a different experience. Have worked for two young companies since graduation, the last being a new start company. Both businesses were run in a manner of chaos, have been told to sit in the corner and use SolidWorks and create purchase orders only...in both positions. Have attended several interviews since then, however all of them seem to be the same. Toxic people and office politics! It's a disheartening and demoralizing career.

Honestly, I was just watching this video because *Procractination*, but I just wanted to thank you for saying, that the university is the most "difficult" part, because right now I often times feel like giving up on it, because of the immense Workload and difficult topics.
I know i´m not dumb, but mech E. sure as hell made me feel like I am the biggest moron.
This video really gives me hope, that I am suitable for this Career.
Danke dafür! Diese Universität macht mich irgendwann noch fertig. ;)

This is a great video! I just recently graduated with my mechanical engineering degree and will be starting work in the fall. This video gave me such great advice that helps me feel ready for what’s ahead.

Although not a mechanical engineer, I think there are some great points here. I used to work for a small manufacturing plant as a CAD Tech directly under the engineering manager. The Engineering manager was a jack of all trades. I don't know exactly what his degree was in, but he did alot. Also I worked alot with the Manufacturing engineer who had a degree in Industrial Engineering. I was given quite a bot of responsibility and "creative freedom" so to speak. Because the engineering department consisted of just is three, I often found myself with tasks that exceeded my expectations about my scope of work. I had design, prototyping, CNC machine, time study, database, tech manual, visual marketing and other duties to name a few. I learned alot from that job. Thanks for this video.

Hi! This is the first video from your channel that I've watched and I really enjoyed it! I have a Mechanical Technician degree and I'm on my way of getting the Mechanical Engineer now. A lot of what you said made sense to me, thanks!

In my nearly 40 years as an ME, the one thing I wish I had known was that everyone will think you drive trains, change oil on cars or fix photocopiers! This is highly offensive to me. Does a Nurse get to call him/herself a doctor or surgeon? Is a law clerk a lawyer? I don't think so. Engineering should be a highly regarded profession. In my native UK this was not the case.. I mean people get killed if an engineer makes a big enough mistake. Its better where I live now in the USA which is why I left.. Plus they pay more money..:)

You are a very interesting and helpful individual and your advice is excellent, and could even apply to other professional careers ( as medicine ). Thank you. R.S., MD, FRCS, Canada

So can mechanical engineering work well with fighter jets and military equipment? Also if you OWN an areospace business how would that affect the amount of work you do? (Okay long witted story time)

I'm getting ready go to John a logan college in Carterville IL...it's a community college and my 2 major picks was criminal justice and engineering, I wanted todo aerospace engineering but they didn't offer it so I went with mechanical engineering...my hope is to own a aerospace business (like Lockheed Martin) in Louisiana and design fighter jets and maybe be a part time cop in the town I'm in. As my advisor said both those are totally different things but the law enforcement trade is dying...people in America HATE law and order...in fact the state I'm currently in (Illinois) made a law called no cash bail which eliminates getting bailed out of jail and bail hearings, well cops can't arrest you if you can't have a bail herring so most cops are moving to different states. But yet we see wars in every country around us, you need fighter jets, missiles, machine guns, tanks and naval ships to be able to defend a country so I thought bout engineering and making these fine machines that keep our countries safe.

Hi Anna you probably won't see this comment but I'm in the Army right now deployed in Iraq and with a completely different field as my job (Combat Medic) and straight from high school. I want a career in Mechanical Engineering because I want to start a company in the future and repair/install or create devices that help people with common tasks and their daily life in general and to possibly create cool gadgets like superhero type stuff lol. I have ignored education during high-school because I thought I'd never need some topics like math or physics because I'd enter the workforce as an EMT or Paramedic but my goals in life have changed. I like helping people but I don't see myself doing this type of work for the rest of my life. I'm a very curious person about the world and how it works and have never believed I was smart enough to be an engineer or just in general using my knowledge to sustain myself. I know I can attain anything as long as I study extensively and I hope to reach your levels of knowledge, I think your videos are pretty cool and hope to see more about Mechanical Engineering and maybe a few videos of you making your own personal project would be really neat! Alright I'm too excited to get back home and start my journey to become an engineer😂. Thank you for your videos they're very informative, Ignore any potential haters and keep up the great work👷‍♀️😎

I graduated from two majors: automotive engineering technology and business administration in my country of birth. But currently lives in Australia and plans to study for a master's degree in mechanical engineering. Can you give me some advice when applying for a job after graduating with a master's degree? Is it difficult because I am currently 25 years old? Forward thinking needs to be learned from everyone.

@Anna Reich how are you doing,
I have got an admission for September 2023 in Portsmouth for Mechanical Engineering, it will cost me around 19000 pounds per year, also I’m 26 years old, is it worth it??

I am also a mechanical engineer (at least that what my university told me)
I've applied to over 1000 jobs (only 2 interviews = 0 job offer)
To say I am lost is an understatement.
I've been playing this losing game for 2 years in may 2024.
what would u do in my shoes ?

Most german engineering is overthinked not saying is bad but it requires high skilled people as well. I've seen that union labor workers in US have difficulties to understand the equipment. Me as Mexican Engineer we are very selftrain and very holistic learn type of mindset we do understand by doing reverse engineering and I can only say at the end of the day even it is overkilled it is very well made.

Covid really fcked up my college life, we're currently doing classes online and I'm getting bored because I haven't touched any machine that I'll be (should be) using in the future.

Im in first year mechanical engineering and this course is so much work, but tbh just a Bsc in in mechanical engineering doesn't even pay good for that much work tbh. Really nice video, loved it
