Little nervous to upload this, since I didn't do so well in school, but hey if I can get through an engineering degree maybe that'll give others hope lol. Engineering school can be tough; you have to have a level of enjoyment with the courses you take really be ready to put some work in. A lot of what you learn is on the job tough, so grades aren't everything, but it's still nice to get some A's ;)

What do you call an engineer who graduated with a C average?
An engineer!

That’s the thing about engineering that surprises me. I used to be the “smart kid who didn’t have to try” in high school. Switching to college engineering, being put against not the grading but my peers, was the biggest switch I had to make. I couldn’t get an A just by doing the coursework, I’m competing against kids that are smarter/more hard working than I am and I wasn’t prepared for that.
So, my first GPA was like a 2.6. Halfway through sophomore year, I have a 3.0 flat now, and I don’t realistically expect that to go much higher than 3.1 or 3.2 by the time I graduate.

Thankfully, you only need a GPA to land your first internship and it literally doesn’t matter after that.

Engineering is just one of those things where your professor is insanely important. Anytime I look back on the classes I did well in and that I didn't, it always came down to how digestible the professor made the course. Some professors just turned the class into an information overload and some taught more in chunks, and it was way easier to follow.

Someone who i can finally relate to, unlike all those 4.0's, 2nd year mechanical engineering here, great video man!

What's hilarious is I passed Calc I, II, and Diff EQ fairly easily, but I just failed Intro to Materials Science. I should have known to drop the class when the Professor started sharing his poem about rivers and boats on the first day.

It wasn't even a good poem.

I’m in my last year. Trust this. It’s not as hard as everyone puts it. Especially the names of the courses. They seem scary but they aren’t. Besides calc and difeq lmao. Those were hard to me. Everything else though. Just put your head down and focus. You will pass if you truly try and believe you belong there. Just take it one semester at a time. Also don’t treat this curriculum like its 4 years. Not everyone can do it in that time. You will struggle but don’t give up.

I started at 29. One of the best decisions to happen to me. Enjoying every minute of it. First year was tough because I forgot all the maths. Never did any physics or engineering related subjects in high school so I was seeing things for the first time where as everyone else was seeing it for the second or third. Now I'm one of the more knowledgeable engineering students that people ask for help. All due to the hard work I put in and passion for the subject. I devour all topics because I enjoy it so much. Best of luck to anyone starting.

I just received my first F in college ever and it was in aerodynamics I. I also gave up this semester especially with everything online. I’m just glad this semester is over and I can come back stronger next semester. Thanks for posting. Engineering isn’t easy. We’re all in this together, guise 💪🏽

My grades are looking similar to yours. Gives me hope that maybe I can make it through engineering 😭

29 year old mechanical engineering grad from a pretty good school here. When I tell you my transcript looks eerily similar to yours... I appreciate it . I allowed what was on these pages to convince me that I couldnt cut it in industry even though I graduated and a lot of what I learned makes sense on this side of school. I'm currently teaching math and getting some IT certs to transition back into STEM but this video definitely encourages me. I'll be looking to apply to some engineering jobs some starting in April of next year. Thanks for the vid. Keep em coming!

I am going on 33 and took some college courses back in 2011. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, literally until about a month ago. I am going for Engineering this fall. I am beginning to watch your videos for the inspiration and the information. Thank you so much!

I love this video! The fact that I can literally relate with him. Being the average student in class. With exam scores often being unpredictable. The C, B and D. It's good to finally seeing an engineer that shows that grades aren't everything.

Currently studying to be an aerospace engineer at Purdue - having just completed my first semester, it's hard work. But if you work hard, you will do well!
