Manual guy here. I feel more in control of my rig with a manual while off road. I think having the right set up makes a big difference too, as in tires, gears, lockers, lift.

My manual transmission is the way to go. I've had both manual and automatic transmission 4x4s and still prefer my manual, and I do go wheeling with it. I like the feel of driving the vehicle, not just pointing it in one direction and letting it control the forward/backward momentum. Also its a millennial anti theft device

Im all in on 2 door, manual transmission and a soft top.
Just as Odin intended.🍻

Bought my first Jeep about 3 months ago. Went with manual and have no regrets. There's an additional learning curve needing to press 3 pedals with only two feet, but have to think its making me a better driver in the long run. You are so right about the low torque crawling ability of the manual transmission.

It's manual for me! One more thing: having a manual transmission vehicle makes it less likely to get stolen.

I'm the manual transmission guy. I, learn driving in a manual transmission and still prefer manaul transmission, cause I'm quite good at it now. I've first learned driving at the age of 14 (MT), now I'm 35 and still driving (MT). In the future, I, might change, but for now I'll stick to a stick trans😃

Have 4 wheeled manual jeeps all my life. Just bought a new 2021 wrangler JLU Rubicon with manual and am loving it. The guys I wheel with thought I would not make cuz on my first day with it I stalled it twice but now that I have had it a month no more stalling and I can easily go anywhere they can.

Each has it's place. I have a YJ on 44's with a manual and a JKU with an auto on 41's and I like them both!

Bsd thing about a manual on trails. Is you always seem to need to go too fast for 1st but yet to slow for 2nd gear.

And when your on a really bumpy rocky slow trail. You have to ride the clutch too much. Starting and stopping all the time.

Enjoyed the video I’ve lived the majority of my life in Ireland and the UK and Oh my vehicle survive the clutch I have never driven an automatic vehicle until I moved to Canada. Now I love driving a vehicle with a clutch it really feels like driving it’s what I grew up doing however I do have a Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro with an automatic transmission and I really do enjoy that truck I’ve been steadily turning it into an overlanding vehicle and it works really well. So I do see the advantages and disadvantages to each. I also do photography and I bought a lot of camera bags because they do different things well it’s just the same here with your vehicles there’s never going to be one perfect vehicle but does everything.

I've never driven a 4X4 auto, but I have driven pickups and SUVs with autos, manuals, and manuals with granny gears. I can say I have a preference fo manuals, but that could be in part because I learned and grew up driving manuals. Whether you handle shifting well in treacherous conditions is largely training. I ridden with people who learned manual on flat ground (city and rural), who had trouble shifting when at a steepish angle OR down (and had trouble negotiating a curve smoothly). My current ride is a 2016 Rubicon Hard Rock I bought because it was the only Rubi with 100 miles with a manual. All told, I would prefer to drive a manual, but would prefer to ride with someone driving what they understand.

I ordered a Willys sport 2 door manual last month. I’ve owned manual transmissions for 16 years. It’s my first Jeep. Im usually really fast at pressing the clutch in and catching the engine before it stalls

Great pros and cons for both types. I like my stick though. Cheers!

I prefer the automatic. The last standard transmission I had was on a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder. I feel more relaxed without having to worry about shifting on daily drives.
Also, the Rubicon 392 has paddle shifters. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, only the 392 Rubicon has them. The paddle shifter has some of the benefits of a standard: the gear can be selected for better control and the lower gears can be selected for going down hill.
Can paddle shifters be installed after buying a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon or do they have to be installed on an automatic transmission specifically designed and built for paddle shifters?
One last thing. The volume was too low, and I may have missed some of what was said.

I had a diesel Cherokee with manual, now I have a Wrangler with 5sp auto. I've done lots of teaveling with both, in the Patagonia in different types of floors (sand, mud, gravel mostly). I would choose auto for off raoding all the times!! Because all the things you've said, plus the fact that with auto you can also use it in manual if you like to use a particular gear in a given situation

5spd auto stick, best of both worlds and no clutch to smoke out playing in the mud

Manual for sure! New truck holds the truck on a hill when starting, stumbled upon the feature a few days ago. Seems like the same vehicle is much more lively than similar automatic, to each their own!

I started wheeling with a manual (87 VW vanagan) Now I currently have both. Hard for me to choose. It depends on my mood.
