I got my first manual a couple years back when my old Accord died. I genuinely feel like it makes you a safer driver because you can't zone out quite as much. Having to think about shifting makes you think more about what other cars are doing, what's coming up, etc.

I was perfectly satisfied with my manual until I started to drive during rush hour. Repeated starts and stops get really annoying when you have to dance on 3 pedals and wank that stick instead of just gently pushing accelerator and sometimes use brakes.
Anyway there is one more reson for people who buy used cars. Automatics need good care and still don't live that long, so chances are that if you buy used car with auto it will be dead really soon. Manual just needs oil change once in decade or two and will last forever.
