I switched after 13 lessons from a manual to a automatic and it was the best decision I ever made! Automatic cars are so much more pleasant to drive! I have been recommending switching to automatic to everyone

I chose to do my test in manual as a lot of my favourite cars are all manual, and it just gives me a lot more choice in cars

I think I'm just put off by gear changing while concentrating on the road at the same time. I usually cycle everywhere because I live in a small town but if I was to drive it would be for getting from point A to B rather than the drive experience, I also think ten to twenty years down the line all cars will be auto and even driverless.

I choose auto as its so much easier, quicker to get (as I was under time pressure due to my work) and I know that I would never in my wildest dreams consider buying a manual, let alone drive one. My parents have manual licences but have been driving only automatic cars for 30 years. My first car was a lovely Toyota Yaris Hybrid. Auto is also so much safer as you can concentrate on the road instead of worrying about gears, especially on roundabouts and motorways. Safety is of utmost importance to me.

I just passed my manual test today after 2 failed attempts. Whilst I chose to do it, I'm not really sure why. It cost me more in terms of lessons and was an all round stressful experience. Technology is moving in a way that means fewer manual cars are now being produced anyway, and if you're not too stretched financially, then you should just get an automatic as it will make your life a lot easier. I'm planning to drive automatic as soon as I decide to get a car, and as of now, I'm not really sure what benefit having a manual license will bring.

Having Dyspraxia, did a few months of manual lessons. Slow, and I hated it, didn't even want to do my lessons.
Finally found an automatic instructor, and I've never enjoyed driving so much! I love it.

My instructor brought his automatic car with him today for me to try, after months and months and months of lessons in a manual. It was a completely different experience! Not only was it much easier to concentrate on what was going on around me and ensure my position, speed and observations were all good and well timed, but it actually made the whole driving lesson FUN, instead of completely nerve racking! I always found changing gears to finicky and distracting, especially when you are trying to navigate a roundabout or main road. Driving an automatic made everything seem so much more smooth, safe and intuitive. Each to their own of course, but I plan to buy a hybrid or electric anyway once I pass, so for me, automatic is now the clear way to go!

I learnt manual nearly 2 years and still couldn’t crack it. So I’ve decided to switch and I’m more comfortable with driving the car simply because it doesn’t roll back, can’t stall and it’s just easier. We can all admit it’s easier to drive an automatic so why choose the harder option and pick manual when actually it just makes your life much harder. Unless you’re good at driving them of course. But for me and many other i reckon automatic is the best choice and let’s be honest it’s the future of driving so there will be more choices because every new car we see on the adverts now are surely being made an automatic as well as manual. Let me know what you reckon/

i would argue that learning to drive a manual is better; while it may be slightly more difficult and stressful, it allows you the freedom to drive any car in the future rather than restricting you to certain vehicles (which can be annoying and problematic for things like car rentals in foreign countries)

I have ADD I find it near impossible to learn new things that require a lot of multitasking I thought I’d never get a licence after my first manual lesson. Really struggle to understand things wen people explain them. I had 30 hours of automatic lessons as a semi intensive course and passed first time with only 2 minors. I feel really safe driving a automatic as I know I can give concentration on the road a priority. Did feel a little bit of shame taking a automatic test but I knew I would feel more shame not being able to drive at all and wish I had learnt automatic sooner

I own both so I'm not biased. The only advantage of an automatic is the when you're stuck in a traffic especially uphill queues, other than that manual is much fun in general. Unless of course for people who can only drive automatic, I suggest learning on a manual then you can always try an automatic later on.

I drove in South America and U.S.A more of 25 years only automatic, now here in U.K I selected take manual lessons, why, because is a challenge, it is good for the brain obtain new skills specially in my 45 years old. I fail the test twice. I Bought manual car and one week after I am taking the motorway every day. The good of manual car in UK, you can control better the car downhill, planing better the roundabouts, I never stalled. Thanks god :). But yes is annoying in traffic queues. The good the manual open more opportunities in job market. The companies use manual cars more often. And when the battery is dead, you can turn on the motor with some help. :)

If you can drive manual very well it is a life skill. Even though learning manual seems to be hard at beginning after you mastered the clutch and gear shifting it is very easy to drive manual. Driving manual is not rocket science. Be patient and practice well with someone who knows how to drive manual and don't give up until you drive so well, which are the secrets of learning manual. I also experienced a lot of hardships when learning manual but I never gave up . I learned alone without anyone's support, which took a little bit more time to learn but now I can drive well . My manual driving skill will be improved more and more over the time and I will be a good manual driver with experience than before.
