A picture speaks a thousand words, eh?

I found this video very fun to produce, - squeezing in 3 distro versions to 1 video.

The Behemoth Match up!

...

Also, from time to time check out the other videos on my channel which includes distro release info on: Linux, Ubuntu, Manjaro, MX Linux, Elementary, Endeavour, Pop OS, Debian, Garuda, Fedora, Zorin, Linux Mint, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Kali Linux, OpenSUSE, Antix, Arch Linux, RHEL, CENTOS, Red Had, MATE Desktop, KDE Desktop, Plasma Desktop, Cinnamon Desktop, Android.

KDE - woah everything is here with just one right click
Gnome - there is almost nothing
XFCE - just nice

This was hardly a comparison as much as it was a personal rant about how much you dislike gnome. Perhaps learn why the desktop menu is small, or why clicking on firefox will "accidentally" open it.

Gnome's gui file manager is called Nautilus.

For what it's worth, in Gnome, you actual can open a terminal with right click but from inside the context of a folder, you can customize it and add other options though.

Actually after I used KDE for half a day, I finally found that the simplicity of gnome really helps me a lot. Because all that complicated stuff are all gone, I won't have to be annoyed searching through the menu. Even though the KDE is best known for its customization ability, I'll say if I want to, I can customize my gnome as well! So I decide not to use KDE again.🤣

I've always liked KDE - since 1999. I've installed Linux many times over the last 20 years, but let it languish because I don't have a business case for it.

My latest foray started 6 months ago, and I've tried both Slackware and openSuse, and both with KDE. KDE is the default desktop on both of these, and as venerable distributions we can trust they know what they are doing.

My issue with KDE in the current version is that the historic cut-and-paste from a right-click of the mouse is no longer there, and has been diverted to a menu on right-click.

It's probably configurable, but I'm not changing any of the defaults until I know the full impact.

I was quite dissapointed that this historic unix/linux behaviour has gone.

I distro hopped and tried many desktop environments. I stuck with gnome for quite some time and I thought kde is a bit complicated. However, when I bought a PC I realized that KDE is the best fit for that. My advice is, if you have a laptop, then gnome is the right choice and if you have a PC, KDE or XFCE might be the best option.

Many years back I took to Gnome 3 as soon as it was released. I stayed with it and liked 'bumping a corner' to access my various open programs.
I now prefer XFCE. It does everything I need just as well.
I have never enjoyed KDE though it was possibly the first DE I ever used back in 2004/2005.
I don't mind at all if it's me that's 'flawed'.

I think I have never right clicked on the desktop. Why should I do that? And I use Xfce with this many contact options, but seriously? That's not a relevant factor. If I want to open a Terminal, I press the OS key + T + Enter and it opens. Usually you have programs open, so you can not even see the desktop most of the time. I think, to really compare them, you have to work with them for a few weeks and not just open them all in a virtual machine and wildly click around.

I prefer Gnome. There are much more improvements for a year after this video. Cheers!

Don't hate on Gnome. I really like the cleanliness of it. It's just a minimalist environment.
