I find Ra, Ru, Ro easy to pronounce, but Rya, Ryu, Ryo almost impossible. Sometimes I hear a 'D' and other times, an 'R'. How they manage to say the R and D at the same time is beyond me.

Thank you for making and sharing all these videos. Having such clear explanations and visual examples of the tongue placement, etc. has really helped me.

Been pronouncing RYU as Rye-You like most people I knew such as whiskey and rye its been 30 years of mispronounced RYu so just gonna continue with rye you as the whiskey still seems to do the trick for me

English does not have a /r/ sound, you meant the /ɻ/ sound. And the symbol /y/ makes the sound of the German Ü. The initial sound of the English word "yellow" is /j/.

in the game shenmue i picked this up because "ryo" its called "dee-yo" and not "ree-yo" by his mother.

This helps clear up a lot to me. Though I still don’t get why no one simply says to pronounce it as a “y” sound (“yo” for “ryo”) when speaking quickly (i.e., normally). Glad you pointed out how it’s said when it’s fast, though.

For example, no one says “on-r-yo” but instead say “on-yo.”

Consonant clusters? That's sounds quite a subjective analysis. It could simply be considered to be "riu", "rio", "ria", suddenly there wouldn't be consonant clusters anymore.

'Ryu' is like 留学生 's 留 pronounced in the Chinese Hokkien / Minnan dialect (福建/闽南话)。 Rya is Hokkien dialect's catch (抓 、捉)。After watching the videos on the Japanese R, I then realized that when I say these words in Hokkien, my tongue touches the roof of the mouth. I'm a Cantonese who can speak Hokkien.

One of my teachers (a native english speaker who doesn't appear to know a thing about any other language) has a daughter named "Corya" and she pronounces it like 'Ko-rai-ya". She thinks that "Coriya" is pronounced that way, too. And she wonders why everyone pronounces her daughter's name wrong upon reading it. She's extremely stubborn about it and refuses to believe that it could possibly be pronounced any other way. I'm trying to prove her wrong.

Is it correct to say
りゃ is like り + あ
and りょ is like り + お
as well? Similar to the りゅbeing like り + う.
