I'm glad you changed it to "boot" at the end, because "cook" was way off. Thanks for the video!
Interesting accent that the speaker has, himself; it's kind of like a soft hybrid between American and British, to my American ears.

But う does not sound like "oo" in "cook"... may be I am wrong.

It's very interesting how many non-native Japanese speakers pronounce "e" as "ay", like "bay", instead of saying "eh" like in "pet". Probably because they mixup the Japanese "e" with the Spanish "e" where "de" is pronounced as "day".

Don't do English emulations. There is no one-to-one mapping between any two languages. They may sound similar to the narrator of this video, whom I suspect doesn't know Japanese, but are miles apart in reality. While it's tempting to compare to a familiar language, if one is used to relying on it as a crutch from the very beginning, it becomes incredibly difficult to fix inaccurate pronunciations later.

"Cat" is a better example than "father" where the vowel 'a' sounds too much like cart. There is a huge difference and 'あ' is much closer to the a in cat. Also, "sock" is a better example for お.
あ - cat
い - feet
う- not really similar to any english sound but it's between the "oo" in cook and the "oo" in food. Think"futon": ふとん.
え- pet
お - sock
