Difference Between Engine and Motor

The real difference is the fact that "motors" run on electricity, while "engines" run on combustion. However, many people interchange the usage of these words: So an engine is a specific type of motor. That's why it is correct to speak of a motorboat, or a motorcar, even if the boat or car is clearly powered by combustion.

In this video I will go to show you difference between Motor and Engine.

There is no sementics rules or whatever that says the word motor = electricity and engines = combustion. You can say both if you want. They are interchangeable.

False - both have been used interchangeably for centuries. Unless you think this guy has superior cred to MIT engineering.

All engines are motors. Not all motors are engines. Pretty simple.

Electric motor can make twice the torque of ICE and even more.

Also motors need lubrication (grease for baring) also some big motors need oil

An engine is a combination of two or more simple machines working together to produce a function. A motor is an engine that produces a motive force. A catapult is an engine. A pair of scissors is an engine. A spinning wheel is an engine. A transmission is an engine. It is possible for a properly designed engine to be a motor if it produces the primary motive force. A motor is always an engine.

Both and engine and a motor have the same definition. A machine that supplies motive power. It’s really just two words that mean the same thing and comes down to personal preference.

I think the main reason people call engines motors is because its just easier for your mouth to say motor. Plus, they don't really know the difference.

that was a duh moment / now the answer to my thinking (houseboat) has two 360 hp engines / what would be more cost efficient to run, a engine or DC motor with equal torque and rpm to push the same force / solar cells and wind turbines on roof and and batteries compared to refueling with 100 gals of gas every 200 miles
