Hey Chaps! If you could add 1 feature to the XPS 15 - what would it be? (for me, 90 or 120hz refresh)

I've actually spoken to someone from the XPS team and he said that they will never add a high refresh screen to the XPS lineup. According to Dell's laptop building principles, higher refresh rates are only reserved for Alienware laptops and while they do add to the overall fluidity of the OS, Dell doesn't believe it is worth it due to the battery life and cost compromise. They might change their mind in the future but we won't see it anytime soon.

Update: Dell has finally decided to put high refresh screens on their new 2024 models.

I got my XPS 15 9520 a few weeks ago and so far it has been amazing. I disagree with what you have said about the noise though. When I use my unit in quiet mode for light tasks like web browsing, word processing and watching youtube/netflix, the laptop stays completely silent. I notice the fans only spin up when i start running games and set it to ultra-performance mode but at that point, the fan noise is to be expected

Speaking from 2023 as a Dell XPS 15 9500 owner:
Do not buy Dell products. The XPS range is riddled with recurring issues; if you search their own forums and Reddit... they're just everywhere. My greatest regret is not immediately sending it back for a full refund when I noticed the first issue (literally minutes after turning it on for the first time). My second greatest regret is having it too long to even do a credit card chargeback. You recently got something from this line and you're having issues; do everything in your power to get rid of it and get a full refund.

Customer service is awful. Do not get them to talk you into getting repair work done, if you can get your money back just get it back. The issues with these computers are so widespread and the fact that Dell takes little to no responsibility- they should be put out of business.

The only significant refresh compared to 2021’s model was the price… 😅

I actually upgraded from my aging XPS 15 9560 to 9510 very recently. So far, I am pretty happy with my purchase since I got the 9510 for $1599. Although CPU upgrade on the 9520 is nice, I just couldn't justify paying an additional $700 more. I do agree that buying the 9510 is probably a better choice for a lot of people if they can find a good deal online over the newer XPS 15 unless they need all that CPU gains from the 12th gen CPU.

I love the 13 plus design, however I really want a 17inch XPS.

I have this exact model (9520) in the Arctic White and upgraded the RAM myself with Dell's dual RAM "gizmos" and that wasn't very difficult. I went with a top level 64GB RAM. I have 512GB SSD and the OLED screen. I plan on keeping it for many years and love the performance. I always keep a Mac Book and a Windows and rotate using them each day. I highly recommend the 9520 if you can find it online somewhere. That OLED screen is gorgeous!

I wish you went more into how many of these laptops have issues with the build or software and other things that arent acceptable.

Every XPS I've owned had one issue or more.

I really want dell to launch the 14 inch XPS again, 14 inch is the best size not to big like a 15 or 16 inch laptop or too small like a 13 inch laptop. I am sure it would be a hit if launched now.

I bought this laptop for an AV tech on our site, I went with the 16:10 over the OLED, better battery and bigger workspace. I also specced down to 12700H as there is only 300MHz difference for a massive price which would likely be restricted by thermals anyway, unfortunately 15 was needed to fit in a laptop. The only issue I have seen so far is the mandatory need for Win11 (for better battery on 12th gen) which nerfed TB16 dock compatibility.

Got 9510 with i7, 3050ti, Windows 11 Pro, 16/512 with 2 years warranty, for 999 euros in Spain. 9520 is 2200+ same specs. Considering that I am coming from 9560, no brainer for me.

got the 9520 oled ~ 2 weeks ago from bestbuy, open box certified, $1320 + tax. swapped out the 16gb for 64gb ram ($300) + a 2tb 980 pro 2nd ssd, and then made very minor internal cooling updates and viola a fantastic laptop for less than $2k.

thanks, bestbuy!

Another thing that you cannot really do on the MacBook is IT Pro/InfoSec work when dealing with client backups and snapshots that you want to run in a VM. Enterprise clients tend to use Windows and Linux in x86 architecture. This does not run on the M1/M2 MacBooks, not even in VM. This limits their usefulness in these fields. As a result, I will take the Dell XPS over the MacBook Pro. Dell even offers the Dell XPS in a Developer Edition that runs Ubuntu LTS releases right out of the box. These tend to have better hardware support on Linux.

I definitely DEFINITELY like the current carbon fibre keyboard of the XPS 15 & 17 with spaces-between-the-keys type of style rather than the new XPS 13+ which honestly looks odd and with capacitive keys for the function row?? WTF!? That's a big NO NO for me too....

I was going between this and the new Zephyrus G15 for my desktop replacement this year and decided to go with the Zephyrus. I don't regret my decision - it has a 165hz 1440p screen which is really the sweet spot in terms of resolution rather than choosing between FHD which is a bit too grainy for my liking and 4k which is overkill and eats battery. It also has a great keyboard and trackpad although I still prefer my M1 Air's in both of those regards (which I am still keeping for my on-the-go laptop) and I was able to upgrade the RAM and storage to 40GB/4TB which is enough for everything i'm doing.

Disagree with the noise, mine is absolutely silent and ive had no issues so far, i love the sound and graphics quality too. does everything i need it to do, especially with work. Id recommend this to anyone, haters gunna hate, for valid or invalid reason based on experience. But im happy with my buy and should last me into the future!
