The reason why Finland wanted to join NATO is because Finland had a war with the Soviets during ww2. Since Russia is invading Ukraine, Finland decided to join NATO just in case Russia decides to invade Finland.

- Ukraine attempted to join NATO first because Russia kept deploying separatists into Ukraine in attempt to destabilize them and made several threats and statements of Ukraine being “Russian”. They finally annexed Crimea in 2014.
