In Sweden as well as Finland we have not felt Russia was an actual threat that would actually do anything and thus there was no urgent with to join Nato. Putin changed all that by one decision and made Russia an actual threat over night. Putin is the worst strategist who by his own actions made all the things he claimed the invasion of a sovereign country would prevent instead happen.

Russia brought this all on itself, Finland would have never joined NATO had Russia not invaded Ukraine.
Now, many other Countries are looking for defense, and NATO offers just that.
Good Day!! 🙏

Finland and Sweden. Two of the most neutral, profoundly and clearly non threatening countries in the world, now feel threatened enough to join a protective organisisation. They're not playing political games or looking for influence. There's one reason only and that's to just be able to live in peace. Russia's actions have broken trust and that won't come back easily. Russia only has itself to blame, and in particular one man.

As a finn I just have to state that no, Russia's actions towards the announcement does not bother us. Russia's neck deep in shit in Ukraine, not much they can do. Yeah their cyber divisions can throw some rocks to our internet gears but that's expected.

However (and even more so, whenever) the situation in Ukraine is resolved? Whole different game. And I hope we are full members of Nato at that point.

Well, Putin meant the invasion as a message to other countries: this is what happens when you want to join NATO. It is having the opposite effect. Finland now wants to join NATO.

Ironically, Putin has made NATO stronger. Finland will be bringing a lot to NATO, their wartime ground troop strength is around 280, 000 soldiers, and in total they have around 900, 000 reservists. This doesn't include all their defensive structures. Since the end of WW2, Finland has never stopped preparing/building their infrastructure for a potential Russian invasion/attack, they have always trained their forces to counter a Russian invasion. They are more prepared than most NATO countries.

Putin's motto : Making NATO stronger, one nation at a time.💪

I’ve seen videos of Finland’s soldiers asking to join NATO and that’s probably who really matters. The people who are going to be fighting directly. Make it happen ASAP!! Glory to Ukraine 🇺🇦🇺🇸

Finalnd "we are threatened by Russia attacking a neighbor who is not apart of Nato so we would like to join"

Putin "we take your fear of us as a threat and are considering invading"

Happy to be a Finn and continue to support democracy and freedom, hopefully soon along with Sweden as a part of a strong, positive alliance.

"It puts NATO right at [Russia's] doorstep." Why do people keep saying this crap? Russia already borders 5 NATO countries and two of them are closer to Moscow than Finland is.

Please remember: Ukraine is occupied in part because it is not a member of NATO, not because it is. Belarus is not a NATO member and is occupied as well.

Well PUTIn didn’t want nato up against his border, now he made sure they will be up against his border by his own actions in UKraine. I don’t blame Finland 🇫🇮 and Sweden 🇸🇪. They have the right to join NATO, it’s not up to RUssia to dictate what they can and can’t do.

NATO already *was* on Russia's doorstep, specifically Latvia and Estonia are both bordering on Russia and are NATO members. So Putin's claims about the Ukraine war being about keeping NATO away are nonsense.

Before Ukraine, maybe they thought NATO might step in even for non-member countries if Russia attacked. Seeing Ukraine having to do it alone after all is a wake up call.

Ukraine! A neutral, sovereign, independent country was attacked by putin in a "preemptive act" as heself claimed.
There was no talk about joining NATO before 2014, then russia started their aggression.
This is the reason why Finland and Sweden now will apply NATO, an defending alliance.
We will both strengthen our security in both our contries and strengthen NATO as well.
Putin! Is it all going like planned?
