This video was so much fun to make. I can't believe what the swing wing is capable of. I really wasn't even sure what to title this video because I had so many good ones in mind. Its an RC sky diver, its an RC wing suit, its an RC space shuttle! it really blew my mind and I hope you guys can help me figure out why it flys so good like this.

You can thank your parents for supporting you with such enthusiasm. Bravo to them for encouraging your imagination and your entrepreneurial spirit, it's such a change from these parents who resign from their responsibilities and let their children vegetate in the magma of social networks

A glider instructor once told me:
"Now THIS is flying, everything else is just getting dragged through the air by an engine [or two]".

make a ''wind tunnel test'', a tube, a fan, and some glued threads on the spots... there's airflow, between the boat and the folded wings... and at high speeds it gains speed, saving power [less friction] you only need wings unfolded to maneuver, slow down, land and take off... the slow stuff...

Super cool that you accidentally ended up with a lifting body with an utterly extreme variable sweep wing. Gives lots of options for high speed and low speed flight. A rebuild with a focus on this newly discovered capability would be really neat to see.

It's time to optimize the wing shape to resemble a narrow wing profile when folded.

Put the wing pivot points behind a streamlined center section to keep maximum slipstream effectiveness.

Add in additional roll servos that switch into action when folded. (Mini servos, mini alerons) A limit switch when folded would switch the wires from folded to unfolded servos and vice versa so nothing changes for the pilot to control roll movement and no additional channels needed on the radio.

Also possible to mount the battery on a sliding tray that is coupled to the folding function. This would provide a way to use the battery movement during folding for maintaining the correct center of gravity in open or folded flight positions.

Yes twisting wires does help with interference

I bet you can use this as a stepping stone to making a Lifting body, or blended wing / body design. 👍

Projects like these are great! Exactly the kind of thing schools should be teaching.

To answer why its flying like that its simply thrust factor. It's essentially a Bi-copter when employing the rotors to full power. That's why you're sustaining flight. The rotors take over and the body of your aircraft is just there for the ride. Great work! Keep it up

I've always loved lifting bodies and you made one that has fold out wings!

With enough thrust everything can fly. 😄

Twisting the wire eliminates the interference. I experienced this first had with a four engine bomber with a wingspan of 55 inches. Each motor had its own speed control. Needless to say I had a lot of wires and a lot of current. The symptoms I was having was intermittent severe fluttering of my elevator and ailerons. When I twisted the wire, the problem disappeared.

I think a cool set of experiments would be to eliminate one thing at a time (while keeping track of how the CoM is moving) and seeing what is actually producing the lift. It would be crazy if it was the boat hull all along 😂

Twisting wire does help with some kinds of interference due to long straight wires acting like antennas. This is why phone wire and cat5/6 is twisted-pair.

I would def buy this as a kit. @FliteTest

there's airflow between the boat, and the folded wings... even the new tail gives some lift...

1:26 twisting the wires is normally use to keep it more compact
