Loved the whole thing! But starting at 1:20:00 about the word of God being sharper than a double-edged sword is mind-blowing! 😮 Thank you for this!

Thanks for the interview! I wish you would've had the time to go on to the theological discussion and the similarities there between Hebrews and Luke-Acts. I find David M. Moffitt's work on Hebrews fascinating and was interested to hear how his approach to the resurrection and atonemet in Hebrews would fit the discussion, but now I'm forced to keep on reading Dr. Allen's book.. which I would of course highly recommend for others interested in the topic as well :)

Really, really enjoyed this.

Just talked about Luke, Luke/Acts in adult Sunday School 3 weeks ago.

Fantastic stuff.

Thank you all for this good discussion.

I've always favored Lukan authorship of Hebrews. History, literary style, and Pauline influence all make sense. I like the idea that it was a lesson or sermon that Luke later converted to a letter, but that's just speculation.

Hebrews 2:3 is the key for me against Pauline authorship, but the other factors are important. Paul, when he addresses it, is emphatic that he is a first-hand source. Apollos is tempting because of the description in Acts of his use of the Scriptures to point to Christ. The lack of historic attribution to him weighs against him. But, if not Luke, he would be my second guess.

This was a very interesting conversation! Thank you, Dr. Allen, it took a major amount of research to have this type of discussion. Dr. David, i liked how you broke down in broad detail how each proposed author of Hebrews quafied. In any case, its a guessing game on who actually wrote Hebrews. If i dare offer such a guess, i would actually just say Jesus wrote it...Why? After all, He wrote the whole Library, 😂.
The main evidence i have as an armchair theologian, is that Jesus often spoke of Himself in the 'Third Person....' Although, as was mentioned in the video, this was a second generation Christian... Oh well... Thanks men for a very intriguing discussion.

Paul called Timothy, "our brother" in 1 Corinthians 1:1, Colossians 1:1, 1 Thessalonians 3:2, Philemon 1:1. Seems as though Paul only refers to Timothy as "son" in his direct letters to Timothy. Great discussion gentleman. Really enjoy listening to Dr Allen. Have all his books other than his book in regards to the authorship on Hebrews. Look forward to reading it.

When "the circumcision" are referred to in Colossians 4, it doesn't necessarily mean that all jews are part of "the circumcision." This becomes evident in Galatians 2 where "the circumcision" are mentioned as well as "the other jews." "The circumcision" were probably a group of Jews from Jerusalem that leaned towards legalism. Luke, if Jewish, would not be included in that group mentioned in Colossians 4.

So, in Hebrews there are grammatical and stylistic similarities to Luke. What are the differences? What sets them apart? And, how significant are they?

I confess I didn’t watch this video, but have comment, , , , “Not that mysterious” takes almost a two hour long video?!

Paul received the thorn in the flesh to keep him humble partly because of the revelations that he was receiving... about Melchizedek perhaps...he may have been going blind and needed Luke to put pen to paper for him...a collaboration perhaps... directly or indirectly by fellowship in the word together 🤔?

A scalpel! I've never heard this!

Whomever wrote Hebrews, if he were alive today, no doubt he would have a podcast 1:40:17 in length.

If I don’t have two hours to watch a video about a simple solution could someone just tell me?

After listening to Dr. Allen and rereading the Book of Hebrews it is obvious to me that Paul is the author. It reads just like Paul's other epistles.
He deals with faith, ("the just shall live by faith" Romans and Hebrews) chastisement, works, perserverance, etc. and uses similar metaphors. Running a race, agriculture, etc. He says he was in bonds and calls Timothy his brother to mention a few.
Dr. Allen said it was only in Hebrews where Timothy is called our brother and that Paul instead called Timothy my son in his epistles and not our brother.
In Corinthians Paul calls Timothy our brother. Again, to me it sounds just like Paul's other letters

Hebrews 13: 9-13... pointing to conflict?

Sealed the deal with the scalpel reference. My husband had the epiphany about that a long time ago - that the sword meant was a scalpel. He didn’t connect that to Luke being the author though. Very cool. I’m pretty convinced even though I was pulling for the Priscilla & Aquila theory before watching this. 😂

Why was it written... Those in Jerusalem were zealous to keep the whole law, they had succumbed to the judaizers ( as they did in Galatia before Paul's correction also like they succumbed to the men FROM JAMES in Antioch before Paul's correction).... Paul went through the ritual in order to talk to the whole multitude as James suggested... Paul was arrested before he got to the meat of the matter...the book of Hebrews is the meat of the matter that they in Jerusalem needed to hear...Paul and Luke coauthors perhaps?... whatever the case it was written for those in Jerusalem that had been bewitched...🤔 ??

Do you have any references for the historical context of the sword/scalpel stuff?
