I was diagnosed at 18 months. I'm 20 now, my mum recently moved in with me. The other night, about 2 am, I'm woken up by her coming into my room. I'm like barely awake and she goes, "Are you low?"
Sure enough I was.
Somehow, she knew, in the middle of the night, that I was low, and I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW.
Moms of T1Ds have superpowers and you can't change my mind!

my teacher has diabetes and one time she was giving out sweets as a prize for a game and she said "I can't give out too many because I'll die!" in the happiest tone 😭

I'm 14 and my mum is a single mum with type 1. I can tell when she's low or high, even when she can't. I came home from school one day last week and straight away said "You're low!" I was right, she was at 2.2 and she didn't realise. I dread to think what would have happened if I got home even a minute or two later.

My bf is type 1 and I can usually tell he's having a low by looking at his eyes. He gets this slightly spacey, confused-looking stare. Almost like puppy dog eyes.

Your mom worried about you so much she memorized each and every tiny nonverbal cue to know when you might be in danger. That’s really sweet.

My mum would wake up during the night and come in and be like " ... your low, you've gotta measure" and she was always right! she also can tell when my glucose is high. Its pretty scary tbh 😂

I have very severe asthma and my mom can tell when im breathing even just slightly differently. It comes from many nights listening and trying to make sure I was still breathing when I was asleep. For years and years. Your mom probably worried so much she started recognizing even those small details

My dad has type 1 diabetes and both my mother and I can kinda just tell when he is low. He gets this look in his eyes and his whole “aura” is just different.

My mother was a a diabetic and as kid I would always stop what I was doing and ask my mom if she was OK when her sugar was dropping. I always seemed to know I could hear it in her voice

My older sister has t1d and when she’s low she just gets really shaky and can’t think and basically has a mental breakdown and she just gets so frustrated. I love her so much🫶🏼

As a T1D mama, we just KNOW! This made me giggle, my best friend’s son is also a type 1 diabetic, and we both just look at each others kids and say “you’re low “ lol. Hard to explain exactly what gives it away, but the eyes always tell!

My daughter was 3.5 when she was diagnosed. Her mood and body language definitely changes with lows….and highs! Lol She’s starting to identify the lows which is pretty cool. “Dex wants a snack!” was her line on the weekend lol

My mum has type 1 diabetes and I can always tell when she's low. She starts shining with sweat (her glasses are too strong to see her eyes properly) and she has a general aura of mild confusion.
I can also tell when she's high because she gets really irritable and, if it's Really high, I can actually smell it on her. Her natural smell becomes really sweet.

I feel you! Literally every time my dexcom alert goes off in my classes every one else just stops what they’re doing and they just stare at me

I am type 2 diabetic. The lowest I've ever gotten was 76. I was shaking so bad I couldn't even function. And I wasn't even home. I was doing jury duty. I forgot to eat lunch before I went. So by the time I was done with jury duty, I was shaking severely and I had to ask for help. Thank goodness there was a police officer there that is a diabetic and he helped me. Thank you police officer!

Someone in my class has diabetes and a few months ago, the alarm went off on their phone because their blood sugar was low, and because the alarm sounds like a firetruck, our teacher turned around and yelled "who ever that is turn that off and get out of the room" because we are not allowed phones in school and then they realise why there is an alarm going off and then apologies 🤦‍♀️
