The SR22T is the top model. As of 2019 it goes for $985k loaded. The accident rates were due to the high performance, low drag, complex aircraft and the lack of training for new pilot and renters. Now Cirrus requires basic training with a trained factory CSIP before a new pilot can fly the plane. Also, in the beginning pilots were reticent to pull the chute given the history of always 'landing the plane' in case of emergency. The factory now trains pilots on a simulator and trains when and how to use the system.

The accident rate was high because people were reluctant to pull the caps handle. Better training which promoted use of the caps over a bad ditching/landing is what lowered the rate

Casually watching this as I dream about a Cirrus for work, and come across a picture of a younger me jumping... this is a fantastic machine

Those are not suicide doors. Suicide doors open front to back.

2006 was the SR22 *TN* rather than the SR22T (which came in 2010). The difference? The 2006-2009 SR22 TN had a turbo normalised set up, which means the turbo was not active until at high altitudes, where it worked to maintain manifold pressure at sea level. The SR22 and SR22 TN had the same *max power output* . The 2010+ SR22T has a full range set up, where the turbo is taken advantage of throughout the power and altitude range. The SR22T has a modest increase in max power over the normally-aspirated SR22.

Great video, good job covering the different models!

This guy's great. Keep the humor :)

The Cirrus accident rates were reduced via training. The aircraft is HIGH PERFORMANCE and COMPLEX. Few pilots are able to just jump in one and fly it without 10 to 20 hours of transition training. Three models are made SR20, SR22 and SR22T Turbo.

That shot of a flyover at 7:06... that doesn't look like a Cirrus SR 20/22. To me it looks more like a vans RV wing.

Lamborghini doors are ‘scissor’ doors.

Nice overview. Except those are not suicide doors. That would destroy the fuselage if opened in flight. Cirrus has scissor doors

1:50 ''however the fatal accident rate is 1.6 ...''
I may have accidentally solved this question/
puzzle for you in my previous comment, ck this
out and let us know what you find, here is
part of what I wrote.. ;
''...2nd
issue is that the parachute from what I
understand requires min 600ft AGL in order
to save you, since most fatalities initiate
within about 300' AGL, this does not
excite me. The rest of the features are
awesome. OOPS, I almost forgot, there
is a channel claiming that getting out
of a stall spin in this is very difficult
at best, hence the parachute had
to be added for that reason, I think the
channel was touting the Diamond DA 62,
while the DA 62 recovery is supposedly
'easy' to recover...''

What is the Vans RV doing in this video ?

Sr22 should have foldable landing gear

2:20 You are claiming that the subsequent
less fatalities is
probably due to better training regarding
the 'chute' system, I don't believe any of

that. Better training on how to safely
fly might be a factor, but improved
training in the use of the
chute, no, not buying any of that.

RE; Spin issues with Cirrus
--Orig comment:
Love this with two exceptions, if it
kicks over on it's top during a mishap
and catches fire you burn to death, 2nd
issue is that the parachute from what I
understand requires min 600ft AGL in order
to save you, since most fatalities initiate
within about 300' AGL, this does not
excite me. The rest of the features are
awesome. OOPS, I almost forgot, there

while the DA 62 recovery is supposedly
'easy' to recover..
:shrugs:
...*Edit cont.... lmao, no myth, and I'd love to see where they publish
pull the chute under 600', right, pull it at 300', why not, well
yeah, who wouldn't pull it, but that is not the point,
lets see where that is published.
The myth is not a myth,
the competition posted a video, and stated emphatically that
they did not pass certification for spins, and were required to
include the ballistic chute, and not as an option, mandatory
because of the issue with spin recovery.
And how to you escape again, if you have a a roll over mishap on
the ground of any nature?

How can they improve this aircraft some more?

But he doesn't mention that the plane could not be certified to fly if it didn't have a parachute. So basically, you are purchasing a fancy portable parachute carrier. Without the parachute the plane would be worthless..
