Holy moly. Lemon twist is such a good idea.

This has been my template since I started, can’t really imagine making it differently and being like yeah that’s an old fashioned

Definitely my favorite as well.
Sugar cube > simple syrup

Minus the lemon twist this is exactly how I make my old fashioned, down to the Knob Rye. I do wrap a cherry in the orange twist as well, not muddled but kind of with the orange hugging it. Looks pretty.

I had a guy come into my bar yesterday and ask if I knew how to make an Old Fashioned before he would order, whatever that's fine some bartenders kinda suck I'll forgive it.

I like to think I make a pretty damn good old fashioned, but he not only sent it back he asked if I knew what I was doing again. Then told me he wanted it, "With a smashed orange and cherries, and don't forget to top it with sprite this time."

🙄🙄🙄

I’ve had this drink just about every time there’s a nice bar. But yours will always be my favorite.

I've tried a lot of different whiskey on my old fashioned. The winner for me is Willet Bourbon. Also use it in my Manhattans. Pretty much anything that calls for whiskey.

I use Rye too, and also it s intersting if you gonna use angostura, sugar cube and use orange pulp from an orange wedge.

Rye is super common and often called for at bars

Idl if you'll see this but try
60 mil rye or Bourbon
Two dashes bitters/angostora
5 mil demerara simple
5 mil Frangelico
15 mil lime juice (can go 21 mil)

Not an old fashioned but something different i think idk lol

Sifted through dozens of videos of garbage old fashioned (one used a packet of sugar).

Finally found one of the best ones!

I'll do it right now! Except... I have no rye :-( Still, I expect it to be good.

Good tips. When I want an extra special Old Fashioned I smoke a cinnamon roll inside the “serving” glass before transferring the drink from the “mixing” glass. Just remember to put a tin foil bellow the burning cinnamon so you don’t ruin your table.

Personally I’m more a fan of using simple syrup (Demerara ideally). I dunno, I find a cube with soda water dilutes the cocktail too much, and I personally don’t like getting grains of sugar I have to chew on in my drink.

Other than that great stuff, especially with the rye. Love an Old Fashioned.

I guess each point he made with the rye vs. bourbon, and adding a lemon peel is subjective, and I can agree with him even though I prefer the traditional. However, a sugar cube vs. simple is never going to be better. I don’t know about you, but I don’t like globs of undissolved sugar in my drink. Maybe a personal preference, but that’s just a non-starter for me.

Didn't mention bitter's but looks like he added it, is this not a hybrid between an old fashioned n Sazerac? Soda is an interesting new addition.
